The fourth season of the hit Netflix series ‘Sex Education‘ is the last we’ll see of Emma Mackey. The British actress who filmed for the fourth season will not return. Emma came to critical and commercial acclaim after playing the fiery teenager Maeve who falls in love with Otis (Asa Butterfield). Throughout the show, their relationship goes various several ups and downs.
Emma Mackey announced her departure on the heels of winning the BAFTA Rising Award. Toward the end of season 3, her character decides to pursue a writing scholarship in America. Emma Mackey confirmed that she will have a recurring presence in the fourth season of ‘Sex Education‘ but won’t return for another season.
Emma Mackey Won’t Return For Season 5 Of ‘Sex Education’
Emma Mackey’s time on the show is ending. Emma, who played Maeve on the show, is putting the Netflix series behind her. In conversation with RadioTimes, she spoke about the end of her involvement with the show, saying, “Season 5? I’ve just finished the fourth one last week! No, I don’t think I’ll be in season 5. I’ve said goodbye to Maeve.”
Emma Mackey believes ‘Sex Education’ has become too familiar to her. She further explains, “It feels very familiar! And it’s a bit more sporadic because we have more characters. So there’s… I’m not in it as consistently. But we’re in the middle of filming now, and I’m excited to be back. And yeah, I’m intrigued to know what’s going to happen – because I also don’t know. I’m also finding out as we go along, so it’ll be fun.”

‘Sex Education’ To Introduce New Characters
There’s no word on when season 4 will be available on Netflix. However, like every hit show, ‘Sex Education‘ will see an exodus of many original cast members. In addition to Emma Mackey, Ncuti Gatwa is leaving the show to film ‘Doctor Who.’ Rakhee Thakrar, Tanya Reynolds, Patricia Allison, and Simone Ashley are other actors departing the show.
‘Sex Education’ is going to join by some prestigious actors. Dan Levy of ‘Schitt’s Creek’ has joined the fourth season as an American author who nurtures Maeve’s writing talent. Another massive name joining the cast is Jodie Turner-Smith. The actress, who shot scenes with Ncuti Gatwa, has expressed her delight in working on the show. She has been cast in an undisclosed role.
