‘The Matrix: Resurrections‘ was a sequel no one asked for. The fourth installment from the iconic ‘Matrix‘ franchise. The film turned out to be a box-office bomb and was criticized for its screenplay and recasting of several actors like Laurence Fishburne and Hugo Weaving.

Laurence Fishburne Opens Up About ‘The Matrix: Resurrections’
‘The Matrix‘ remains one of the most iconic sci-fi films of all time. Its visuals, themes, and bullet timing have become a part of our pop culture. After 18 years, a fourth film in the franchise titled ‘The Matrix: Ressurection‘ was released.
Fishburne, who did not appear in this film, spoke about it to Variety. “It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. And it wasn’t as good as I hoped it would be,” the actor said.
The ‘Apocalypse Now‘ star then went on to praise the lead actors. “But I thought Carrie-Anne and Keanu really did their thing. Yeah, that’s what I thought.”
When asked whether he felt like he had missed out on being a part of the franchise’s revival, the 61-year-old actor simply said, “No, not really.”

Fishburne Was Replaced By Another Actor In ‘Matrix 4’
Laurence played the role of Morpheus in the original trilogy. In the fourth film, his character is long dead. An AI version based on the leader is played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in the film.
Hugo Weaving, who played Agent Smith, was also missing from the revival film. Smith is portrayed by Jonathan Groff in the film. Keanu Reeves and Fishburne are set to co-star in ‘John Wick: Chapter 4‘ where he plays the Bowery King.
‘Matrix: Resurrections was the first in the franchise to be directed solely by Lana Wachowski, without her sister, Lilly.
Apart from the main cast, it also starred Jada Pinkett Smith, and Lambert Wilson reprising their roles. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas appeared in supporting roles.
