“Women Have Had to Suffer In Silence And Shame For Too Long”: Naomi Watts Explains The Idea Behind Her Book On Menopause

British actress, Naomi Watts revealed her reason for writing a book about menopause. ‘Dare I Say It: Everything I Wish I’d Known about Menopause’ relates the actress’s experience and struggle with this mandatory phase in every woman’s life. ‘The Ring’ actor believes that still in many corners of the world, women are not properly educated about menopause. They “suffer in silence and shame” while they are going through a terrible hormonal change.

‘Dare I Say It’ is scheduled to hit the bookstores on 21 January 2025. Naomi has always been an advocate for menopause awareness. And with her upcoming release, she hopes to bring ease and intimacy to menopause conversation. Noami boldly says that eventually, every woman has to go through menopause. This inspired Naomi to pen down her experiences, with a foreword by Dr. Mary Clair Haver, a certified gynaecologist.

Naomi Wants To Make Menopause An “Open Conversation”

‘Dare I Say It’ includes Naomi’s experience with menopause, conversation with friends, and a foreword by Dr. Mary Claire Haver. The actress related, “Women have had to suffer in silence and shame for too long about the changes they undergo during menopause, with little access to information, support or even much of an open conversation.” Naomi began the menopause journey at the early age of 36.

The actress was caught completely off-guard. A press release for the book stated, “Feeling confused, alone, and unsupported about this stage of her life, Watts was determined to do better for herself and other women”. Hence, Naomi used her status to become an advocate for menopause awareness. She stated, “I hope it will be of help for anyone trying to get a hold on this phase of life and make it a time of liberation rather than purely a time of trial.”

Naomi’s Hopes To Make Women “A Little More Excited” About Menopause

Writing about her harrowing experience during menopause, Naomi wishes no woman to go through a similar experience. Moreover, the actress ventures to make this phase an easy conversation and “a little more excited about the natural changes that life has in store for us”. Naomi began her awareness crusade by launching her menopausal wellness brand, Stripes Beauty.

Naomi’s book unlike other celebrities has made an admirable effort. Excitedly she said to People, “I can’t wait for you to hear about the highs and lows and everything in between about this life stage and get some real, practical advice and comfort about how to take on these changes head-on.”
