George Clooney is disappointed after his latest film ‘Wolfs’ was released on Apple+. The movie follows a professional fixer played by Clooney who is hired to cover a high-profile crime and is later joined by Brad Pitt as his teammate.
But the downgrade of the film to limited theatre has seemingly left the actor disheartened. Clooney recently addressed how streaming affects the theatrical release and the earnings of a movie. He revealed that he feels bad about all of this and also shared some new strategies for future movies.
George Clooney Is Disappointed About His Movie’s Limited Release
According to Deadline, George Clooney expressed his views on the new rollout while speaking at the Venice Film Festival, promoting his new film. “Yes, we wanted it to be released. We’ve had some bumps along the way, that happens”, Clooney said.
He added, “You know when I did Boys in the Boat we did it for MGM, and then it ended being for Amazon, and we didn’t get a foreign release at all, which was a surprise. There are elements of this that we are figuring out… It is a bummer, of course, it’s a bummer”.

“On the other hand a lot of people are going to see the film and we are getting a release in a few hundred theatres, but, yeah, it would have been nicer to have a wide release,” Clooney further added.
George Clooney Reveals How Streaming Affects Theatrical Release
Apple’s decision to shift the ‘Wolfs‘ streaming to an online platform has become common in recent years. Especially during the pandemic, they adopted this method believing such a trend is likely to take over in the coming years. While box office returns have been down recently, theatrical experience has seen a rebound this summer, quelling some of the doomsday narratives that arose earlier in the year.
Studios and movie houses are trying to cope with this change and still figuring out what could be done. Addressing the issue during the press conference, Clooney said, “Streaming is, we need it, our industry needs it… But they also benefit from having films released and that’s why Brad [Pitt] and I were working so hard to try and get this released — and we’re figuring it out, we haven’t got it all figured out yet”.

He continued, “This is a revolution in our industry and we need Apple and Amazon and they actually need distributors, they need to have Sony or Warner Bros. who actually have been doing this for 100 years. So, we’re figuring this out. What I do think I see is a lot more work for actors. We’re having to curate it differently and we’re gonna figure that out.”
‘Wolfs’ hits theatre on September 20 and will land on Apple+ on September 27.
