Zoe Saldaña Reveals What She Expects From MCU’s Next Gamora

Zoe Saldaña is a familiar face in the science fiction genre, best known for Avatar Neytiri and Marvel’s Gamora. She has been part of some of the highest-grossing films in Hollywood history.

Therefore, it is understandable if the actor wants her legacy preserved in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Saldaña has appeared in the Guardian of the Galaxy trilogy and the last two films of the ‘Avengers’ series. The actor is ready to pass on Gamora’s torch to someone else, but not without some expectations.

Zoe Saldaña Hopes Marvel Casts A “Brown Girl” For Gamora

After a fair seven-year run, Zoe Saldaña bid farewell to Gamora’s character after ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ in 2023. Gamora, at the end of the third installment, had rejoined Ravengers, an interstellar crime syndicate. However, the actor has some notes on re-casting the character. Talking to Variety, Zoe suggested, “Let it be a brown girl to play Gamora.”

Zoe continued, “Give that opportunity to a woman of color and see what the new Gamora is going to bring to the table.” Mentioning her ‘Star Trek’ character, she said, “Like I brought Nyota Uhura to the table with Nichelle Nichols’ blessing.”

Meanwhile, the actor has her calendars filled up till her early 50s. Zoe signed contracts for two more ‘Avatar‘ films. Avatar: Ash and Fire is scheduled to be released in 2025.

Zoe Saldaña Reflects On Being A Director

Becoming a director ranks at the top of Zoe Saldaña’s ambitious list. Undoubtedly, the actor will be as good of a director as she is an actor and producer. Reflecting on directing, she said, “When you direct — especially the kind of director that I am, and that I’ve witnessed all the directors that I’ve admired be — you live with a movie for years.”

She explained, “I just want to make sure that my kids are old enough where they don’t even notice that I’m gone. I always walk around with a heavy heart every
time I’m away from them. But I also have a heavy heart if I walk away from art
and feel that I didn’t give my all.”

She confessed it takes courage to acknowledge “that I’m scared, that I don’t want to stop growing, that I have so much more to learn.” Zoe concluded, “There’s something that comes with maturity — which is wisdom. And wisdom sometimes means just being honest with yourself.”
