The DC Universe is in a state of transformation under James Gunn and Peter Safran, with fans eager to see which actors will shape the next decade of superhero storytelling. One of the most highly anticipated projects is ‘The Brave and the Bold’, a Batman reboot set within the DCU’s new continuity.
With Robert Pattinson continuing his journey in Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’ franchise under the Elseworlds banner, Gunn’s mainline Batman will introduce audiences to a seasoned Caped Crusader. Naturally, speculation about who will don the cape and cowl has been rampant. Among the many names, Alan Ritchson has often been at the top of the wish lists. However, the actor recently provided a candid update that both excited and disappointed fans in equal measure.
Not Batman, Alan Ritchson Has Another DCU Role In Mind

In a new interview with Variety, Alan Ritchson revealed that while he has spoken with James Gunn, Batman is not the role he expects to play in the DCU. “Well, it’s not rumor that James Gunn is a fan. He said it himself. And am I a fan of James Gunn? Absolutely. I don’t want to mislead people. Words have been exchanged about Batman. But I strongly don’t think that Batman is in my future. I do think there is something in my future with DC. And I would like that to remain true.”

Fans have long imagined him as Bruce Wayne because of his physicality, deep voice, and ability to balance grit with charm. However, his words make it clear that while conversations have taken place, Batman is not likely the direction things are heading. This does not mean that Ritchson’s DC future is over. In fact, his admission that he believes there’s “something” for him in the DCU suggests Gunn may already have another character in mind.
Considering Ritchson’s track record (he previously portrayed Aquaman in Smallville and Hawk in Titans), he’s no stranger to superhero roles. His time as Hank Hall in Titans was particularly well-received. With his action-star profile rising thanks to ‘Reacher’, it feels like only a matter of time before he lands another iconic comic book role. And let’s face it, Batman or not, Ritchson can bring almost any DC hero (or villain) to life.
Former ‘Superman’ Actor Tyler Hoechlin Wants To Be Batman

While Ritchson may not see himself as Gotham’s protector, another actor has openly expressed interest in stepping into Batman’s boots. At FAN EXPO Canada, ‘Superman & Lois’ star Tyler Hoechlin, best known for playing the Man of Steel in the ‘Arrowverse’ was asked if Robert Pattinson’s Batman could fit into Gunn’s DCU. Hoechlin’s answer took fans by surprise.

“Well, selfishly, I’m going to say no because I still want to play Batman. I think and I say that Rob did a fantastic, fantastic job, and with Matt Reeves, it was great. So I’m happy to let them keep doing their thing, and maybe leave the door open…” he stated. It’s rare to see a former ‘Superman’ actor openly campaign to play Batman. However, Hoechlin’s interest only adds to the speculation. Having portrayed Superman across multiple Arrowverse crossovers, Hoechlin certainly has the superhero pedigree.
What both Ritchson’s and Hoechlin’s comments reveal is the immense excitement surrounding Gunn’s Batman reboot. ‘The Brave and the Bold’ won’t just introduce a new Bruce Wayne; it will also expand the Bat-Family in ways live-action has never fully explored. Damian Wayne’s live-action debut will also be a game-changer. So, it demands a seasoned Batman actor who can embody both fatherhood and the drive of Gotham’s vigilante.
