The DC Universe is officially entering a new era under the leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran, with Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters laying the groundwork for a fresh, interconnected world of heroes and villains. As the DCU expands, fan speculation has been running wild.
This is especially true when it comes to casting some of the franchise’s most beloved icons. Among the many names that have surfaced, one has captured particular attention: Alexandra Daddario as Wonder Woman or Catwoman. Recently, Daddario addressed the growing fan demand for her to join the DCU.
Alexandra Daddario On Potential DCU Role As Wonder Woman

In a recent interview with SR, Alexandra Daddario was asked about the waves of fan art and social media buzz imagining her as either Wonder Woman or Catwoman in James Gunn’s rebooted DC Universe. “I have to be honest, I haven’t seen any of that fan art,” Daddario said. “But I’m flattered to hear that it’s happening.” Despite her surprise, Daddario expressed clear excitement at the thought of joining the DCU.

“Of course, working with James Gunn would be amazing in any capacity, but I wasn’t aware that that was going on.” Her answer immediately struck a chord with fans who have long envisioned her as the perfect fit for one of DC’s most powerful heroines. With her striking blue eyes, commanding screen presence, and proven acting chops, Daddario has become one of the most popular fan picks for Wonder Woman. And there may be reason to hope because DC Studios is indeed preparing for the next cinematic iteration of Diana Prince.
Back in June 2025, Gunn confirmed that a new Wonder Woman movie was officially in development, with Supergirl writer Ana Nogueira attached to pen the screenplay. This announcement came after months of speculation about whether the Amazonian warrior would appear in the new DCU continuity. In addition to the feature film, Gunn also confirmed the long-rumored prequel series Paradise Lost, which will explore the origins of Themyscira and the political intrigue among its all-female warrior society.
While the project is “slow-moving,” as Gunn described to EW, it remains in active development. For now, DC has not set a release date for the Wonder Woman film. However, 2028 seems like a realistic window if production begins within the next couple of years. The question of who will wield the Lasso of Truth next is still up in the air. Either way, the anticipation is palpable.
James Gunn Addresses The Future Of Darkseid In The DCU

While the conversation around heroes like Wonder Woman and Supergirl has dominated headlines, James Gunn recently opened up about another major figure in DC lore, one whose future in the DCU is far less certain: Darkseid. In an interview with New Rockstars, Gunn was asked if the ruler of Apokolips would be making an appearance as the next major threat to unite the franchise. His response was surprisingly candid. “Using Darkseid as the big bad now is not necessarily the thing,” Gunn explained.

“Because for a lot of reasons. Zack Snyder did it so cool in his way, and because of Thanos and Marvel.” His comment reveals a thoughtful, creative direction for the DCU. Rather than revisiting the same cosmic threat audiences have already seen in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Gunn seems intent on carving out a unique identity for his universe. Darkseid made his live-action debut in Snyder’s acclaimed 2021 cut of Justice League.
The character’s intimidating presence and Shakespearean gravitas quickly became fan favorites. Gunn’s decision to step away from that version makes creative sense. The comparisons to Marvel’s Thanos and Snyder’s take would be inevitable. Instead, Gunn seems to be paving the way for new villains and unexplored storylines, ensuring that the DCU doesn’t just repeat the past but reinvents it.
