Gotham City may be preparing to welcome one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, and if the latest reports are accurate, her arrival could quietly reshape the emotional backbone of ‘The Batman – Part II’.
Scarlett Johansson, who has a decade-long history of playing the Black Widow in the Marvel universe, is currently being associated with the DCU in a role that directly relates to one of Batman’s most tragic villains.
Casting Rumors Link Scarlett Johansson To A Key Gotham Tragedy

Although DC Studios has not officially confirmed anything, the rumor itself has sparked fan speculation. And it’s not because Johansson would be playing a flashy villain, but because the character she is allegedly attached to is at the center of a love, loss, and moral fall story, which Reeves has already demonstrated he enjoys exploring. Johansson, according to insider reports in the industry, is reported to be negotiating to play Gilda Gold.

The character is closely associated with Harvey Dent, the man who later becomes Two-Face. Gilda is not characterized by criminal ambition or chaos, as the more theatrical villains of Gotham are. Rather, she is something much more perilous: emotional truth. Gilda Gold is frequently depicted in DC lore as Harvey Dent’s wife or partner. She is familiar with the man beneath the scars, the courtroom orations, and the coin flips.
Her presence tends to humanize Harvey even before he becomes a villain. This is particularly interesting because of Johansson’s rumored casting. And it implies that ‘The Batman -Part II’ can be even more of a psychological drama than a spectacle. Reeves’ first movie already positioned Gotham as a city that is rotting. The addition of Gilda Gold may imply that the sequel is not about escalation but consequence.
It is also reported that the movie is currently in the process of casting Harvey Dent and his father, Christopher Dent, a character that has not been extensively covered in live-action versions. At some point, Brad Pitt was mentioned as a possible candidate to play Christopher’s time. However, that rumor was disproved. Nevertheless, the fact that Reeves is interested in developing Harvey Dent’s family background is an indication of something significant: it would not be a hasty Two-Face origin. Rather, it would be a slow-burning tragedy.
What This Means For ‘The Batman -Part II’ And The DC Landscape

Narratively, ‘The Batman Part II’ is said to take place only a few weeks after ‘The Penguin’ left Gotham. Robert Pattinson is confirmed to reprise the role of Bruce Wayne, and Colin Farrell is confirmed to reprise the role of Oz Cobb, who has become a criminal power player. When Harvey Dent comes into the story at this point, it puts him in an interesting crossroads. Gotham is in need of law and order like never before, and Dent has always been the final hope of the city.

Bringing Gilda into his world would be based on something personal. That also increases the emotional stakes. Bruce Wayne, who is still struggling with his identity and his mission, might be compelled to observe another man attempt to rescue Gotham, and possibly fail, to do it through the system. As a franchise, having Johansson enter the universe would be a big win. Production is currently aiming to begin in May 2026, with ‘The Batman – Part II’ slated for an October 1, 2027 release. Until cameras roll, everything remains in the realm of educated speculation.
