“It Was Like A Dream Role For Me”: Dave Bautista Reveals He Always Wanted To Play An Iconic ‘Batman’ Villain

After being taken over by James Gunn and Peter Safran, DC Universe is in the new era of movies. Along with tapping new actors for various roles, the duo is also bringing back the actors they have worked with in the past. One such actor is Dave Bautista, who wanted to play a specific DC role, but couldn’t before.

Dave wanted to play the role of Bane, aBatmanvillain, when he was younger. Though he never got that chance earlier, he is finally being offered the opportunity. However, now he has a different antagonist in mind.

During an interview with Screen Rant for his movie ‘My Spy: The Eternal City’, Dave shared his old desire to play the role of Bane in ‘Batman’. “For forever, it was Bane. When I was younger, I wanted to play Bane; it was like a dream role for me. And I got to a point in my career where I just felt like I was just too old to play Bane,” he said.

He added, “I think the physicality of it, at this point in my career and my life, I just wouldn’t be able to do the character justice.”

Though he had to give up his old dream, Dave now has another character in mind which he thinks he can play. After being compared to Lex Luthor online, he has adapted to the idea and is now willing to play the character.

I saw somewhere online that someone posted something of me playing Lex Luthor; an older Lex Luthor. I kind of became obsessed with that idea. Obviously, they moved on from that idea, so at this point, I’m struggling to find my place in the DC universe. But I’d really be up for anything,” he said.

However, there’s a possibility that this dream would also be crushed.

Though he has replaced his old dream character with a new one, Dave Bautista won’t be able to play this one either. Nicholas Hoult is all set to take on Lex Luthor’s role.

But all hope is not lost for Bautista. There still are plenty of roles he can play in the DC Universe. He has in the past played the role of Drax the Destroyer in ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ and he wishes to work again with James Gunn.

In the same interview, he added, “I realized a lot of people that he’s worked with, they’ll come in, and they just want to be there and work with him and have fun.” While some will “come in and make cameos and do minor roles,” Bautista wants “to be there through the duration of the film and play a major role.”

Bautista and Gunn have a good working relationship and it would be exciting to see them work together again in a new DC project.
