DC Studios has been making bold moves with its new cinematic universe. But not everything is going according to plan. James Gunn and Peter Safran have been clear about their ambitious vision for the DCU.
This includes several high-profile projects like ‘The Authority‘, ‘Booster Gold‘, and ‘Waller‘. However, all the shows are now facing delays and uncertainty.
What’s Really Going Wrong At DC Studios?

One of the biggest setbacks for the DCU involves ‘Booster Gold‘ as the show has now hit a creative roadblock. Sources suggest that Danny McBride, who was previously attached to the show, has stepped away due to scheduling conflicts. With his departure, the search is on for a new creative lead.

Moreover, the project itself remains in active development. Additionally, ‘Waller’, the Amanda Waller-focused spinoff starring Viola Davis, is another show that’s struggling to move forward. According to reports, scripts have been written, a showrunner is in place, and actors are attached.
However, James Gunn isn’t happy with what’s on the page. This means rewrites are inevitable, which could push the project further down the pipeline. But it’s also important to note that the show hasn’t been scrapped yet. It’s clear that Gunn and Safran want to get it just right before giving it the green light.
The biggest issue, however, seems to be ‘The Authority’. This film, which was expected to introduce a morally complex team of superheroes into the DCU, is now considered “too risky” by Warner Bros. executives. Moreover, Gunn himself admitted that The Authority is “not the furthest along” in development and that elements of its story might overlap with ‘Superman’.
‘The Batman’s Future And James Gunn’s New Batman For ‘The Brave & The Bold’

Beyond these projects stuck in development hell, James Gunn has also clarified DC Studios’ stance on ‘The Batman’ and its connection to the DCU. Fans who were hoping for Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight to be integrated into Gunn’s shared universe will be disappointed.

Speaking to Collider, Gunn confirmed that “it’s certainly not the plan” to merge Matt Reeves’ Gotham with the DCU. This shouldn’t come as a shock. Reeves’ ‘The Batman’ was designed as a standalone, noir-driven take on the character. So, with ‘The Batman – Part II’ set to begin filming later this year, it makes sense to keep that world separate.
Gunn and Safran, meanwhile, are focused on introducing a fresh iteration of Batman in ‘The Brave & The Bold’. The show will feature Bruce Wayne alongside his son, Damian Wayne. Moreover, Gunn’s Batman will be part of a larger, interconnected universe, while Reeves’ version remains grounded in realism.
