The DC Universe is gradually showing its cosmic face, and the latest trailer of ‘Lanterns’ has provided a detail that fans have been longing to see: the franchise has finally gotten a glimpse of a classic Green Lantern suit.
Although the video primarily centers on mystery, character drama, and a down-to-earth tone, there is one moment where it is quietly revealed what the actual costume design of the Corps would appear like in the DCU.
The DCU May Have Just Revealed Its Most Authentic Green Lantern Suit Yet

The trailer focuses on the relationship between the veteran Lantern Hal Jordan and the rookie hero John Stewart. The duo, played by Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre, is investigating a mysterious death in rural Nebraska, which provides the show with a surprisingly grounded detective story feel.

However, in the tension and slow-burning plot development, the trailer briefly reveals something significant. Unsurprisingly, it’s a Green Lantern suit hanging in a closet. The costume is old and battered, with a darker shade of green with black highlights. The suit does not appear as a smooth futuristic uniform. It’s more like something practical, almost leather-like, which implies that it has been worn over the years.
That fact coincides with the fact that Hal Jordan is a veteran of the Green Lantern Corps. Interestingly, the video also suggests that John Stewart has been training for months before putting on the ring. In that case, the suit must be Hal’s, which supports the notion that he is an experienced hero who has already gone through numerous missions in space.
A Different Look At DCU’s First Lantern

Though this is the first time the fans have witnessed a classic Green Lantern costume in the new franchise, it is not the first Lantern to feature in the DCU. That distinction belongs to Guy Gardner, portrayed by Nathan Fillion in ‘Superman‘.

But the suit that Gardner wore was not the official Corps design. Rather, it was a uniform designed by LordTech for the Justice Gang. This makes it look more corporate than the traditional Lantern appearance that fans are used to in the comics. The costume in ‘Lanterns’ seems to rectify that, and the series will likely feature the real style of the intergalactic police force. It is a little disclosure, but it has huge consequences.
Should Lanterns go further into the history of the Corps and its veteran members, the most loyal live-action adaptation of Green Lantern mythology may soon be seen by fans. And, by the look of that closet shot, the DCU is finally getting the look it deserves.
