Robert Pattinson Calls ‘The Batman: Part II’ Script “Exciting” As Matt Reeves Teases Darker, Bigger Story

After years of anticipation, Matt Reeves’ gritty Gotham is finally preparing for its next big chapter. Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight is gearing up for a return in ‘The Batman: Part II’, with fresh updates from both Reeves and Pattinson confirming that the highly secretive script is now in the hands of its star.

For fans who have been eagerly waiting since the release of ‘The Batman’ in 2022, this marks the clearest sign yet that Gotham’s next story is officially in motion. The first installment redefined Batman for a new generation. Now, with the sequel aiming for an October 1, 2027, release, the stakes are higher than ever.

Speaking with Variety, Matt Reeves revealed that the screenplay for ‘The Batman: Part II’ was completed earlier this year and is already being shared with cast members. However, the distribution process comes with a layer of intrigue worthy of Gotham itself. Reeves explained that the scripts are locked away in a “secret pouch” with a code, emphasizing just how much secrecy surrounds the project.

Robert Pattinson, who has already received his copy, is reportedly thrilled. “Rob was super excited. I feel really excited about the idea that we can reach farther and do even more than we did in the first one,” he shared. Hearing this from the actor who gave us one of the most raw takes on Bruce Wayne is reassuring. Pattinson’s enthusiasm suggests that the sequel is not just retreading familiar ground but pushing into more ambitious storytelling.

Production is set to begin in spring 2026, likely between late April and early May. Moreover, if the first film was about Bruce learning what kind of Batman he needed to be, the second could be about the consequences of those choices. The speculation is endless, and Reeves’ approach only fuels the excitement.

Cristin Milioti Won’t Be In ‘The Batman: Part II’

One noticeable update, however, is the confirmation that Cristin Milioti, who brilliantly portrayed Sofia Falcone in The Penguin, will not appear in ‘The Batman: Part II’. Reeves addressed this directly during an Emmy Awards interview, saying: “She’s not in this one, in full disclosure. We were so far along in the story, it might upset the apple cart, let’s say, given where the story goes and what we were exploring.

Milioti’s absence is surprising given how pivotal her role became in ‘The Penguin’. However, Reeves’ explanation suggests her arc may not align with the core narrative of Bruce Wayne’s next battle. Still, Reeves hinted that her Emmy-winning performance could earn her a return down the line. “Eventually” feels like a promise rather than a dismissal.

Instead of stuffing the sequel with every popular character, Reeves is carefully curating who belongs in ‘The Batman: Part II’. That restraint may frustrate some fans in the short term, but in the long run, it ensures each character gets the depth and attention they deserve. And while waiting until 2027 feels like an eternity, the buildup promises to be worth it. With ‘The Penguin’ already laying the groundwork, ‘The Batman: Part II’ will be a grand continuation of an evolving saga.
