The wait for ‘The Batman Part II’ is turning out to be longer than anyone anticipated for fans and Robert Pattinson himself. With the sequel now pushed back to 2027, Pattinson is feeling the frustration just like fans.
The actor believes that the 6-year wait between the films has turned him into an older Batman. However, he also remains optimistic and believes that Director Matt Reeves has made progress.
Why Is ‘The Batman Part II’ Taking So Long?

In a recent interview promoting ‘Mickey 17’, Robert Pattinson didn’t hold back when asked about his return as Batman. “I started out as young Batman and I’m going to be f***ing old Batman by the sequel,” he told Hero Magazine. While the delays are disappointing for everyone, there is some good news.

Additionally, director Matt Reeves has finally locked in the story, and according to Pattinson, it’s shaping up to be something special. However, with nearly six years between The Batman and its sequel, fans are understandably wondering, will it be worth the wait? Originally, ‘The Batman Part II’ was set to hit theaters in October 2025.
Then, it was delayed to 2026. Now, the release date stands at October 1, 2027. That’s a massive gap between the first and second films. So, what’s causing all the delays? According to DC Studios co-head James Gunn, the biggest reason has been perfecting the script. Reeves, known for his meticulous storytelling, took his time refining the sequel’s plot.
Even Pattinson admitted that for a long time, he didn’t know what the movie was about. “There’s a lot. I know what it’s about now,” he shared. “Matt is a very careful writer. But I finally now know what it’s about. It’s very cool and I’m very excited.” While fans may be growing impatient, Gunn pointed out that long gaps between sequels aren’t unusual. “To be fair, a 5-year gap or more is fairly common in sequels,” he said.
Will Robert Pattinson’s Batman Join The DCU?

Another question looming over Robert Pattinson’s Batman is whether he could eventually transition into the new DCU under James Gunn and Peter Safran. With the DCU set to introduce its own version of Batman in ‘The Brave and the Bold’, some fans have speculated that Pattinson could take on the role across both franchises.

Gunn, however, has made it clear that this isn’t the plan. When asked directly about the possibility, he didn’t hesitate. “It’s certainly not the plan. Like, it’s certainly not the plan,” Gunn Clarified. “We love him, but we have to introduce a Batman into the DCU. That’s the plan with Brave and the Bold,” Safran added.
It makes sense from a creative standpoint. ‘The Batman‘ exists in its own grounded, self-contained world, a Gotham defined by Matt Reeves’ signature style. So, mixing Pattinson’s version with the larger DCU, which will feature a host of superpowered heroes, could disrupt the unique tone that makes ‘The Batman’ special.
