Director Craig Gillespie has shared new details about the upcoming DC Universe film, ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,’ confirming that audiences will see David Corenswet‘s Superman meet Milly Alcock‘s Kara Zor-El during her arrival on Earth.
The film, set for release on June 26 this year, follows up on the 25-year-old Australian’s brief appearance as ‘Supergirl’ in last year’s ‘Superman,’ where she was first seen entering the Fortress of Solitude.
The First Superman and Supergirl Meeting Brings an Emotional Clash

In a recent interview, Gillespie said the scene is important because it highlights how deeply the two Kryptonian cousins were raised.

“They have such different upbringings,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “Superman hasn’t gone through trauma. He came from a very loving family and was almost groomed to be in this role, whereas Supergirl has been through trauma and the role’s kind of being pushed upon her at a later age and she’s having to adjust to that.“
Gillespie highlighted that their relationship often feels like an older-sibling dynamic, sometimes even tense, with Superman acting as the calmer, more patient figure while Supergirl struggles to find her place.
The director teased another encounter between Superman and Supergirl, saying, “It was actually our first day out the gate. She just landed, so she doesn’t know English. So she’s out of the gate speaking Kryptonian.“
The story is expected to take the form of a cosmic road trip inspired by the ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow‘ comic.
Milly Alcock on Her Supergirl Character

Milly Alcock, who plays the lead role, shared insight into her character’s emotional journey in a recent Vanity Fair profile.

“She’s given this incredible responsibility and doesn’t know how to deal with it,” Alcock said. “So she kind of suffocates herself and goes on a journey of self-discovery.”
The ‘House of the Dragon‘ star added, “She’s not trying to save the world—she’s just trying to save her own. This film is an excellent reminder that the world can be crumbling around you, but you can be the hero of your own story.”
What to Expect from Supergirl 2026

Produced under DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Saffran, ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow‘ features a supporting cast that includes Matthias Schoenaerts, David Krumholtz, and Emily Beecham. The filming was shot across locations in the UK and Scotland, with a budget focused on character-driven storytelling.
Test screenings have reportedly praised Milly Alcock’s performance, while the movie is also said to feature energetic music choices in the style often seen in Gunn’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘ films.
David Corenswet’s appearance as Superman is expected to be an important link within the expanding DC Universe.
