The DC Universe is entering a new era, and with it comes a question that fans have been buzzing about for years: Could Robert Pattinson’s Batman ever cross paths with David Corenswet’s Superman in James Gunn’s DCU? On paper, it sounds like a dream pairing.
However, according to one of Superman’s key creatives, while it isn’t in the official plans, it’s not impossible either. The speculation is enough to reignite excitement, even if fans know the road ahead has already been paved in a very different direction.
“I Totally See That You Could Tie Those Two Together,” Claims ‘Superman’ VFX Artist

During an exclusive interview with SR, Guy Williams, who worked on ‘Superman’, was asked the big question: Could Pattinson’s Batman exist in the same world as Corenswet’s Superman from a visual and tonal standpoint? Williams didn’t dismiss the idea. In fact, his thoughtful response leaned toward optimism. “That is a hell of a good question. I would say yes… I guarantee you that there’s a handful of directors out there that could figure out how to tie those two together and make it work.“

He even drew a cinematic comparison, likening the tonal differences between The Batman and Superman to the contrast between Rogue One and the original Star Wars trilogy, darker in style, but still able to share the same narrative universe. According to Williams, storytelling is flexible enough that a gritty, noir-driven Batman can co-exist alongside a brighter, hopeful Superman.
And he’s right, fans have seen it work in comics for decades. Pattinson’s brooding detective has more in common with street-level Batman arcs than with larger-than-life cosmic battles. However, creative direction can always bridge those gaps. Unfortunately, there’s a catch. As much as Williams’ words ignite fan hopes, DC Studios has already clarified that Pattinson’s Batman will remain separate from James Gunn’s DCU.
Gunn’s ‘The Brave and the Bold’ will introduce a new Batman in the shared cinematic universe, while Reeves’ Batman saga continues in its own isolated pocket. That means no immediate crossover between Pattinson’s Dark Knight and Corenswet’s Superman, at least not in the main continuity.
‘The Batman 2’ Finally Moves Forward Amid DC’s New Era

Even if Pattinson’s Batman never shakes hands with Superman, there’s still plenty for Bat-fans to celebrate. In Warner Bros. Discovery’s recent shareholder letter, the company finally confirmed that Matt Reeves’ long-awaited ‘The Batman Part II’ will begin shooting in spring 2026, aiming for an October 2027 release. This comes after years of anticipation since ‘The Batman’ grossed $772 million worldwide and solidified Pattinson as a worthy successor in the cape and cowl.

While the delay has tested patience, DC Studios head James Gunn defended the gap. He pointed out that five-year or longer breaks between sequels are not uncommon. Gunn reminded fans that the extra time allows Reeves and his team to perfect the script and craft something worthy of the first film’s legacy. And Reeves, known for his meticulous world-building, has always prioritized depth over speed.
For Warner Bros. Discovery, the timing also aligns neatly with their larger DCU roadmap. With Superman establishing a fresh tone for the reboot, the studio can run two parallel tracks: Gunn’s unified DCU and Reeves’ Elseworlds-style standalone saga. It’s a strategy that avoids forcing a merger while still allowing both creative visions to thrive. So, will Robert Pattinson’s Batman ever meet David Corenswet’s Superman? Officially, no. At least not within James Gunn’s carefully mapped-out DCU. However, as Guy Williams hinted, good storytelling can bridge gaps. So, all hope isn’t lost.
