5 Superman Team-Ups We Want To See In James Gunn’s DCU

In Short
  • James Gunn's DC Universe rebooted Superman with David Corensweet.
  • Fans are eager for potential team-ups between Superman and iconic characters like the Justice League, Supergirl, and Batman.
  • Gunn hinted at a unique alliance between Superman and Lex Luthor to combat greater threats in future films.

James Gunn’s DC Universe gave a much-needed revamp to ‘Superman‘ in 2025, with David Corensweet donning the red cape and replacing Henry Cavill. Featuring Justice Gang (Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl, Mister Terrific, and Metamorpho) and strong performances from Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor, the movie earned around $618 million worldwide.

2026 brings more superhero features, such as ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow‘ and ‘Clayface.’ ‘Man of Tomorrow‘ sequel is also set for 2027. Fans are naturally already buzzing for epic Superman team-ups. Here are our ideas for the same, as the DCU continues to expand.

1. Superman and The Justice League

Although James Gunn’s Justice Gang brought something fresh to the Superman movie, it still feels like an early version of the Justice League. And truth be told, who would mind seeing the Man of Steel team up with the iconic superhero team? Well, no one.

Yes, the Justice Gang works together, but they are more corporate and lack the legendary status of the Justice League. This is why DC fans would love to see Superman pair up with the original lineup, consisting of The Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman, Green Lantern, and Hawkgirl.

Moreover, Gunn has already confirmed plans for a Justice League story in the future. So fans may still have the chance to see the iconic team reunite on the big screen once again.

2. Superman and Supergirl

Ever since James Gunn took over creative control of the DC franchise, he has put special emphasis on this cousin duo. With Milly Alcock already starring in ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ after her appearance in ‘Superman,’ it seems only a matter of time before the Kryptonian pair team up on screen for the first time to battle evil forces.

Besides, the strong contrast between the two characters, with Kal-El being calm and Kara more impulsive, could provide a much-needed fresh dynamic for the fans.

3. Superman and Batman

A possible pair-up between Superman and Batman would highlight the difference between the two heroes. While Superman believes in the goodness of people, Batman is far darker and more suspicious. That contrast is what fans want to see: how the two most popular DC superheroes set aside their differences to fight powerful villains, whether in Gotham or Metropolis.

The groundwork for that may start rolling once Matt Reeves’ Batman sequel (The Batman II) gets released next year.

4. Superman and The Justice Gang

The Justice Gang has already aided Superman in his debut, and fans may see many more alliances between the Kryptonian hero and the gang in the future installments of the DC Universe.

The Justice Gang’s quirky personalities, especially that of Guy Garner’s, combined with Superman’s moral grounding, are something fans would never get bored with watching.

5. Superman and Lex Luthor

Well, James Gunn has already teased that Superman and his tech-savvy enemy, Lex Luthor, might team up to fight greater evil, possibly Brainiac, in the upcoming installment, ‘Man of Tomorrow.’

This would be something entirely different that fans have not seen before: a unique blend of Superman’s raw power and strength and Luthor’s genius, creating a deadly and unlikely combination for anyone standing against them.
