The DC Universe is preparing for a grand rebirth under James Gunn and Peter Safran’s leadership, and one of the biggest questions lingering in fans’ minds is whether the iconic Wonder Woman will return to the big screen.
While the future of Diana Prince looks bright in the upcoming DCU slate, what remains uncertain is whether Patty Jenkins, the visionary director behind the first two Wonder Woman films, will have any involvement in this new era.
Patty Jenkins Reflects On Her Time With Wonder Woman

In a recent interview with M.C.U.N., Jenkins opened up about her thoughts on returning to direct or be involved in the new iteration of the character. Jenkins didn’t just direct Wonder Woman, she redefined her. When the film hit theaters in 2017, it became an instant phenomenon, breaking box office records with over $823 million worldwide and winning both fans and critics over. Jenkins’ version of Diana Prince, played by Gal Gadot, became a cultural symbol of empowerment.

However, in her recent comments, Jenkins struck a more reflective tone about her time in the superhero world. “You know what, you never say never because I love Wonder Woman,” she said. “But at the moment, I am so excited with what I am doing, and it’s always good to do something new.” Her response carries both affection and finality. It suggests that while she cherishes her time with the Amazonian warrior, she’s also eager to explore new creative paths.
Jenkins continued, “I loved making superhero movies, but you never know. For now, I’m having a good time doing other things.” Jenkins’ Wonder Woman was a groundbreaking achievement for female-led superhero films. However, its sequel, ‘Wonder Woman 1984‘, released in 2020, had a more complicated legacy. The film arrived during the global pandemic, released simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max, and earned $169 million globally, a sharp contrast to the success of its predecessor.
Alexandra Daddario Might Be The New Wonder Woman

After the restructuring of DC Studios under James Gunn and Peter Safran, the long-rumored ‘Wonder Woman 3’ was officially canceled. The move disappointed many fans but was part of a larger vision to reset and reimagine the DCU. Now, the DCU’s first phase, Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters, is set to reintroduce many iconic heroes. This includes a brand-new version of Wonder Woman. According to reports, a new Wonder Woman solo film is in early development, with Ana Nogueira penning the script.

The reboot aims to reintroduce Diana to audiences with a fresh face and story that better fits Gunn’s interconnected universe. While no casting decisions have been made yet, fans have been vocal online about their dream choices. Among the most popular fancasts are Alexandra Daddario and Adria Arjona. Daddario, in particular, recently addressed the growing fan enthusiasm. When asked by SR about the idea of playing Wonder Woman, or even Catwoman, in the DCU, Daddario admitted she hadn’t seen the fan art circulating online.
“I have to be honest, I haven’t seen any of that,” she said with a laugh. “I’m flattered to hear that it’s happening, but I wasn’t aware of it.” Still, she made it clear she’s open to the idea: “Of course, working with James Gunn would be amazing in any capacity.” Gunn himself has confirmed that both Wonder Woman and Catwoman will have roles in the DCU, though the exact projects haven’t been revealed. Additionally, DC Studios is developing a Wonder Woman prequel series, ‘Paradise Lost’.
