With the new DC Universe starting to emerge under James Gunn, fans are ready for a new era of superheroes. ‘Superman’, ‘Creature Commandos’, and the upcoming ‘Lanterns’ are among the projects assisting in setting the tone and direction of the franchise.
But there is one big question that remains: where does Wonder Woman fit in all this?
DCU’s Early Plans Leave Wonder Woman Surprisingly Absent

As one of the most iconic DC characters and a central figure in the legendary Trinity with Batman and Superman, the role of Wonder Woman in the initial DCU roadmap seems to be very sparse to date. With such a long history in comics, film, and television, the gradual release has left many fans wondering why she is not at the center of the first wave of projects in the franchise.

The first chapter of the DCU is called Gods and Monsters and contains a great diversity of projects. Cosmic tales to supernatural stories, the list shows that the studio is not afraid to venture into the DC mythos.
Still, the only known Wonder Woman-related project currently linked to the new universe is the prequel series ‘Paradise Lost’. The project is set on Themyscira many years before Diana Prince becomes the hero that viewers are familiar with.
Although the idea is interesting, it also implies that the character herself might not be seen in the near future. Other characters, however, much less known, are already getting their own projects or starring in future movies and series.
For a hero who has been one of DC’s defining figures for decades, that absence feels noticeable. Wonder Woman has been a symbol of power, empathy, and command, and thus, the fact that she was a key figure in the DCU at the very start was not surprising to many fans.
Past Success Shows How Important Wonder Woman Can Be

The reluctance is even more shocking given the success that the character has had on the big screen. Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince role contributed to Wonder Woman becoming one of the most popular heroes in the previous DC Extended Universe.
The movie was a critical and commercial success, which confirms that people are willing to watch films about the Amazon warrior.

It also made Wonder Woman one of the emotional pillars of the greater DC cinematic universe. Naturally, the DCU is not yet fully developed, and the plans may change rapidly in a shared universe. Wonder Woman has not yet lost her time to shine once again.
However, with her cultural influence and significance in DC history, there are a lot of fans who hope that it will not take too long before the Princess of Themyscira can finally become a significant subject of the new DCU.
