Selena Gomez publicly reacted after U.S. figure skater Alysa Liu was spotted applying a Rare Beauty lip product moments before stepping onto the podium to receive her gold medal at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy.
The moment unfolded on February 19, at the Milano Ice Skating Arena following the women’s free skate. As Liu made her way toward the medal ceremony, she briefly paused and asked, “Where’s my lipstick?” She then reached for a tube later identified by TikToker Abby Rivera as Rare Beauty’s Soft Pinch Lip Oil in the shade Delight, a rose-brown color.
Gomez reposted the viral clip on her Instagram Stories and wrote, “Congratulations @alysaxliu. (She’s just like me fr).” The post highlighted the Olympic moment alongside Gomez’s cosmetics brand, which she launched in 2020.
Liu clinched the gold medal with a total score of 226.79 after her free skate, edging out Japan’s Kaori Sakamoto, who earned silver with 224.90. The victory marked the end of a 24-year Olympic gold drought for Team USA in women’s figure skating, the last American champion being Sarah Hughes in 2002.

Two nights before the free skate, Liu finished second in the short program. She told reporters, including PEOPLE, that she was “really happy” with her performance and that she’s “proud” of what she brought to the Olympics. Her combined scores from the short program and free skate secured her place at the top of the podium.
