Ayesha Curry is setting the record straight on long-standing public perceptions surrounding past comments about her husband, Stephen Curry, explaining they were widely misunderstood and rooted in her own teenage insecurities.
Ayesha appeared alongside Stephen on the IMO podcast, hosted by Michelle Obama and her brother Craig Robinson. During the March 25 episode, she clarified that her earlier remark about Stephen not being her type was not a reflection of disinterest but rather a product of self-doubt at a young age.
“I feel like this is something that gets misconstrued publicly,” Ayesha said. Addressing Stephen directly, she added, “It’s not that you didn’t have game, I was 14 years old — I was not allowed to talk to boys!”
She acknowledged that her previous phrasing came across as “very disrespectful” and “rude,” explaining that her teenage perspective was shaped by stereotypes about athletes. Ayesha revealed she had even created a “no athlete” rule during a school assignment, reflecting what she described as “very textbook, maybe, misconceptions (of athletes)” influenced by media portrayals.
“I was a theater nerd, so I think I was protecting my peace,” she said, recalling that she had written the rule in capital letters. Years later, her parents rediscovered the list in storage and brought it back to her attention, offering a full-circle moment on how much her perspective has evolved.

Ayesha Curry further clarified that her earlier remarks were rooted in self-doubt, explaining she didn’t feel like she matched what Stephen would be looking for at the time.
“People for some reason think I’ve said in the past that he wasn’t my type, but what I was saying was that I didn’t think I was his type because this was Mr. Cool, and so I kind of sold myself short in thinking there’s no way, he must just like me as a friend,” she said.
Stephen Curry Injury Update Adds Context To Past Public Backlash

Stephen Curry is currently sidelined with a knee injury that includes patellofemoral pain and a bone bruise, though he continues to travel with his team. His time away from games has allowed for more family time, including a recent birthday celebration in New York with his wife.
Ayesha has previously faced public scrutiny for candid remarks made in earlier interviews, including a 2019 appearance and a 2025 podcast conversation that drew online backlash after excerpts circulated without full context. Despite that, the Warriors legend has consistently defended her publicly.
