Brian Cox has been making headlines following a candid recent interview, in which he took aim at several actors and directors during a conversation with The Times. The 79-year-old specifically addressed Margot Robbie, expressing disagreement with her casting as Cathy in the adaptation of Wuthering Heights.

Despite acknowledging that the 1939 adaptation of Emily Brontë’s classic is one of his favorite films, Cox ultimately stood by his critique, stating, “Margot Robbie is far too beautiful for that role. I mean, I think there should be something more of the Gypsy about her, but it’s wrong of me to judge. It may be a brilliant film”.
Brian Cox Opened Up About His Argument With Daniel Day-Lewis

In the same interview, Brian Cox made it clear that his long-running tension with Daniel Day-Lewis has yet to fully fade. When asked whether he had reached out to his former co-star, Cox admitted he had not, adding, “This has nothing to do with Dan Day-Lewis. Dan Day-Lewis, he’s a gentleman. He never causes [the filming process] to be disturbed”.
Cox also shared that he has tried to move on from publicly discussing Day-Lewis after his former on-screen son, Jeremy Strong, “literally begged me to stop talking about him”.
Speaking about Strong, Cox acknowledged his talent but took issue with his approach to method acting, describing him as a “good actor” while criticizing what he sees as unnecessary intensity. “It’s just the theatrics that go with it. You see, kids, they never say, ‘What’s my motivation?’ They just do it!” he added.
