Deion Sanders Rallies Behind Shedeur Amid Growing NFL Friction

Deion Sanders publicly shared a fan-written birthday message addressed to his son, Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders, drawing attention to criticism surrounding the NFL experience the younger Sanders has faced since entering the league.

The social media post, which circulated widely before being reshared by the Colorado head coach, reflected on Shedeur Sanders’ journey since leaving college and framed the challenges of his rookie season as part of a broader purpose.

It referenced his slide from a projected first-round pick to a fifth-round selection in the 2025 NFL Draft, characterizing the moment as a public setback before emphasizing the resilience he demonstrated in its aftermath.

The message stated in part that Shedeur was “humiliated on national television in front of millions by falling out of the first round on draft day.” It went on to add that “God picked you to be sabotaged, set up for failure, neglected, and abandoned by your Head Coach through OTA’s, training camp, and the first 10 weeks of the season.”

The message later shifted to a tone of perseverance and affirmation, praising Shedeur Sanders for his response to adversity.

It read, “Young fella, you didn’t bow. You did not break. You never threw your coach under the bus. You never attacked the media for their lies. You are now QB1. God will restore all that was lost. You will lead the Cleveland Browns to the playoffs NEXT YEAR, and God will receive the GLORY.”

Sanders’ rookie season was marked by limited early opportunities before he eventually earned starting snaps for Cleveland, all while navigating scrutiny tied to draft-night expectations and sustained national attention.

During Super Bowl week appearances, Deion Sanders addressed speculation about a potential move from college football to the NFL and ruled out the possibility.

Asked on ESPN’s First Take whether anything could persuade him to coach in the league, Sanders responded, “Not whatsoever. What transpired with my son last year, ain’t no way in the world.”

His comments referenced Shedeur Sanders’ draft slide and early positioning on the Browns’ depth chart before later starts during the 2025 season.

Shedeur Sanders ultimately started multiple games for Cleveland, recording passing production that included 1,400 yards with seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions, and later received a Pro Bowl replacement selection.
