Trinity Rodman has signed a three-year contract extension with the Washington Spirit, making her the highest-paid women’s soccer player in the world, the club and league announced on January 22, 2026. The deal reportedly exceeds $2 million per year, including bonuses, and will keep Rodman with the Spirit through the 2028 season.
The 23-year-old has been with Washington since being selected second overall in the 2021 NWSL Draft. She played a key role in the Spirit’s 2025 NWSL Challenge Cup title and helped the club finish as league runner-up in each of the previous two seasons.
Alongside her club success, Rodman has established herself as a regular contributor for the U.S. Women’s National Team. In a statement, Rodman reflected on her decision to remain in Washington: “I’ve made the DMV my home and the Spirit my family, and I knew this was where I wanted to enter the next chapter of my career.”
She added, “I’m proud of what we’ve built since my rookie season, and I’m excited about where this club is headed. We’re chasing championships and raising the standard, and I can’t wait to keep doing that with my teammates and the best fans in the NWSL.”
Her historic contract also drew a public reaction from her father, former NBA star Dennis Rodman. On January 22, he reposted ESPN’s announcement to his Instagram Story, pairing it with Drake and Nicki Minaj’s song “Make Me Proud” and a single-word caption: “History.”

The agreement came after months of negotiations and was made possible by the NWSL’s newly adopted “High Impact Player” rule. The provision allows clubs to exceed the league’s standard salary cap for designated players, giving teams a mechanism to retain elite talent while remaining compliant with league regulations.
Inside Dennis and Trinity Rodman’s Complex Father-Daughter Relationship

Dennis Rodman and Trinity Rodman have long acknowledged a strained relationship. In a December 2024 interview, Trinity said she does not view Dennis as a father figure, pointing to his frequent absences and party lifestyle during her childhood.
She emphasized that her mother, Michelle Moyer, was the primary caregiver and most influential presence in her upbringing. Trinity also noted that she answers her father’s calls “for my conscience” rather than out of personal desire.
