Everybody has probably watched at least one movie from the Minions franchise and loves these yellow pill-shaped creatures. But have you ever wondered where these yellow creatures spawned from?
Cinco Paul, the writer of the movie franchise, shared how Minions were created and how their evil but not-so-evil continues till now. He added details about their creation and how their glorious existence began.

How Did The Minions Came Into Existence?
Minions made their way in through a spin-off movie in 2015 and since then they have been “hehehe-ing” their way through their missions. From stealing “Za Moon” to reshaping the pyramids to making an appearance in historical events, Minions have often failed to complete their tasks. They have been relevant for very long, but ever wondered where they came from?
According to the movie, Gru created minions with the help of Dr. Nefario, who is also his right-hand man in his laboratory. Writers Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio shared that “They were devoted to him. You don’t see them anywhere else in the world except for in Gru’s lair,” Paul explains. “To us, that’s clearly what had happened. There was never even a discussion about it.”
They further added that Minions are cloned and biologically created with the same DNA. “They’re all family. It was an intentional decision not to show a Minion being created. It might be too disturbing. You don’t want to see how the sausage gets made or how the Minions get made.”

The Creators Reveal How They Feel About Original Minions Lore
Fans can’t digest the fact that banana lovers were created in a lab and not even the writer Paul. He shared his reaction, “My first reaction was, Wait, what? The Minions were made in a lab by Dr. Nefario, how can this be? But also in the back of my head was, Well, Pierre created the Minions as we know it. It’s his prerogative if he wants to come up with a different origin story for them.”
It’s a creation versus evolution situation for the makers. For entertainment, they made Minions travel the world and even experimented with changing the lore.
Paul refused to acknowledge the change but also added that ‘Minions’ movies were more like Gru’s bedtime story that he tells Minions, which is embedded in their brain so that they don’t have to face the fact that they were created in labs. “So that they could feel they have had a grand and glorious beginning“, said Paul.
