Donald Trump Announces Super Bowl LX Snub, Criticizing Bad Bunny And Green Day

President Donald Trump says he will boycott Super Bowl LX, citing opposition to the NFL’s selection of performers Bad Bunny and Green Day, which he described as divisive.

In an interview with The New York Post, Trump said he does not plan to attend the Super Bowl on February 8 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. EST.

“I’m anti-them,” Trump said of the performers. “I think it’s a terrible choice. All it does is sow hatred. Terrible.” Trump also pointed to logistical concerns, saying the California venue is “just too far away.”

The White House has not announced any alternative plans for the president on Super Bowl Sunday. The decision represents a reversal from last year, when Trump became the first sitting U.S. president to attend a Super Bowl.

He was present for Super Bowl 59 at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, where the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 40–22.

Super Bowl LX will feature Bad Bunny as the halftime headliner, with Green Day also set to be part of the game’s entertainment lineup. The NFL has not publicly commented on Trump’s remarks.

Trump’s remarks come amid broader criticism of the NFL’s decision to select Bad Bunny as the Super Bowl halftime performer. Conservative commentators, social media influencers, and several Republican lawmakers have taken issue with the choice, with some labeling it “un-American.”

Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, was born in Puerto Rico and is a U.S. citizen. Puerto Rico is a territory of the United States. In September 2025, former race car driver Danica Patrick publicly criticized the halftime selection on X and later expanded on her views during multiple media appearances.

She argued that performing “no songs in English should not be allowed at one of America’s highest-rated television events of the year,” and called for an English-language alternative.

“I don’t have any problem with someone performing at halftime that is not from the United States, although Bad Bunny is technically a citizen because he was born in Puerto Rico,” Patrick said on the “War Room” podcast.

She added, “He wasn’t necessarily born in America. I don’t care where you’re actually born. What I care about is that I can sing along to the music. His music is almost nothing in English.”

Other critics have also pointed to Bad Bunny’s public opposition to the Trump administration’s immigration policies, including the deployment of ICE officers in multiple U.S. cities. Those operations have been linked to the deaths of two U.S. citizens.

Bad Bunny addressed the backlash in October 2025 while hosting Saturday Night Live. During the broadcast, he acknowledged the controversy surrounding his Super Bowl halftime role and said he was enthusiastic about performing at the event, adding that fans around the world who follow his music shared that excitement.

During the broadcast, the show aired a satirical montage of critical media coverage, reframing the backlash as exaggerated praise. Bad Bunny then spoke briefly in Spanish before suggesting that viewers unfamiliar with the language still had time to get to know his music ahead of the Super Bowl.
