Rory McIlroy delivered a dominant performance to secure his second consecutive Masters title, finishing 12-under par to edge out a strong field that included Scottie Scheffler, Justin Rose, and Cameron Young.
Following the victory, McIlroy shared a heartfelt moment with his wife, Erica Stoll, who has remained a steady presence throughout his career. Stoll watched the tournament alongside the couple’s five-year-old daughter, Poppy, making the celebration a family affair.
The moment comes after renewed attention on their relationship, which faced public scrutiny in 2024 when McIlroy filed for divorce, describing the marriage in court documents as “irretrievably broken.” The filing was withdrawn roughly a month later after the couple reconciled.
Reflecting on the situation, McIlroy addressed the speculation in an interview with The Guardian, saying, “There have been rumors about my personal life recently, which is unfortunate. Responding to each rumor is a fool’s game. Over the past weeks, Erica and I have realized that our best future was as a family together. Thankfully, we have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning.”

McIlroy and Stoll first met in 2012 before tying the knot in 2017 at the historic Ashford Castle. The couple welcomed their daughter in 2020, adding to their life together away from the course.
McIlroy’s 2026 Masters triumph underscores a period of renewed stability, both professionally and personally, as he continues to perform at the highest level of the sport while embracing a strong family foundation.
Rory McIlroy Points To Course Familiarity In Historic Masters Defense

After defending his title, Rory McIlroy detailed his preparation and comfort level at Augusta, describing the course as increasingly familiar. “I joked last week and going into this week that this place feels like my home course,” McIlroy said.
The Irishman added, “I haven’t played anywhere else in the last two or three weeks really. I felt prepared in that way. I felt prepared that wherever I hit it on the golf course, I sort of know what to do. I know where to miss. I’m pretty comfortable with all the shots around the greens.”
He also referenced advice from Jack Nicklaus while preparing for major tournaments. “I’ve talked to Jack Nicklaus over the years how he prepared for majors, and he would go the week before, and he would simulate a tournament. He’d play one ball for four days, shoot scores.”
He added, “So then when he got to the tournament, it was sort of – it felt second nature to him. I did a little bit of that leading up to here, and I think that’s certainly a good way to prepare going into the next majors.”
McIlroy opened the tournament with rounds of 67 and 65 before posting a 73 on Saturday and a final-round 71 to finish at 12 under. The win came by one stroke over Scheffler.
