How Alex Albon And Lily Muni Met Through Sport And Social Media

Lily Muni previously opened up about how the couple first connected during a 2021 interview with Golfweek. She explained that friends encouraged her to watch Netflix’s Drive to Survive while she was navigating a competitive slump and searching for perspective on the pressures of elite-level sport.
After finishing the series in a single day, she followed several Formula 1 drivers on social media, including Alex Albon. At the same time, Albon had just begun learning golf. He followed Muni back, and the two started communicating regularly.
“We started talking on the phone. We were both rookies in 2019, and I thought that was extremely cool,” Muni told Golfweek. She added that they later met in person following one of Albon’s races in the United States.
She added, “Eventually he had an event in the States, and afterwards, he and his friend took a little break in LA, and that’s how we properly met for the first time.”
Albon later shared his perspective on that first meeting during a 2022 Golfweek interview, describing how their paths naturally crossed through sport. “The first time I picked up a golf club was maybe the beginning of 2019. You could say our interests collided,” he said.
He recalled meeting Muni in Los Angeles a week after racing in Texas, where the two spent time playing golf together. In the same interview, Albon also reflected on why their relationship has endured.
“We’re both athletes. It’s a pretty cool place because also, on top of everything, we understand and we get each other,” he said. He added that shared experiences, long-distance stretches, and personal discipline have helped them manage the demands of competing at the highest level in their respective sports.
