At the 2023 TCM Classic Film Festival, George Clooney was a part of the ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ panel to discuss the film. In it, he unveiled that both Mark Wahlberg and Johnny Depp were offered the role of Linus.

After they turned it down, the role was eventually played by Matt Damon. Praising the film’s director Steven Soderberg, Clooney said that “people really wanted to work with Steven.”

That said, some people did say no to us,” Soderbergh said. Clooney then added, “Some very famous people told us to fuck right off. Mark Wahlberg, Johnny Depp. There were others. They regret it now. I regret doing fucking ‘Batman’.”

The film went on to become a huge critical and commercial success and was followed by two sequels ‘Ocean’s Twelve’ and ‘Ocean’s Thirteen’ as well as an all-female spin-off ‘Ocean’s 8.’

At the same event, the Golden Globe winner joked about doing a sequel to ‘Ocean’s Eleven‘ with a crossover with ‘Magic Mike‘. The latter is also directed by Soderbergh and stars Channing Tatum.

When asked about a sequel, Clooney teased that both the films should merge and also suggested a possible title, ‘Ocean’s Mike‘. Since Soderbergh is behind both these films, it is possible that we might get to see an interesting crossover involving male strippers in the near future.

The success of the first film was followed by a sequel titled, ‘Magic Mike XXL’. ‘Magic Mike: The Last Dance’, the third film in the installment, was released in February 2023.
