James Marsden recently shared fresh insights into his long-running fantasy football league with Jon Hamm, offering a glimpse into the competitive dynamic among their star-studded group.
Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE at the premiere of Your Friends & Neighbors Season 2 in New York City on March 30, Marsden revealed that the league has been active for years and remains an important part of his friendship with Hamm.
“We’ve been in a fantasy football league, wasting colossal amounts of time, for several years now,” the 52-year-old actor said. When asked who holds the upper hand, Marsden sidestepped naming himself but credited Hamm for his consistency.
Marsden said, “He knows what he’s doing. Some guys in the league don’t know what they’re doing. But it’s all playful. As long as the trash talk is there, we’re good.” Marsden has previously disclosed that the league features several high-profile members, including Chris Evans and Joel McHale.
During a March 23 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, he singled out Evans as a formidable competitor. “Chris is very good. Chris is very good,” Marsden said, adding that he has enjoyed his own success in the league, including back-to-back titles and a runner-up finish in another season.

The actor also shed light on the league’s informal structure, explaining that while members often joke about hefty buy-in amounts, the real emphasis is on the consequences for whoever finishes last.
Reflecting on the most recent outcome, Marsden quipped, “This is like a polygraph,” before adding, “Who was it last year? I think Joel McHale — he’s going to hate me for that now. I’m being coy. It’s a collective consensus that we vote on.”

At the same event, James Marsden also discussed his connection with Olivia Munn, revealing that they attended the same high school and had crossed paths years earlier while working together.
“She approached me at a GQ party or something and said, ‘You don’t remember this, but you took your sister and some of her friends out to…’ — I think it was called Bennigan’s,” Marsden said.
He added, “It was like a chain restaurant. (And Munn said), ‘And I was one of your sister’s friends.’ And then the next thing’s history. She’s a movie star.”

Marsden also addressed his potential involvement in future seasons of his Hulu series Paradise. While he did not confirm any return, he indicated uncertainty about how the storyline could continue given his character’s fate.
He said, “I’ve learned to never say never. I mean, I feel like [my character] is dead in season 1, episode 1. So how much longer can you drag that out?”
