Kylie Kelce said she repeatedly asked her husband, Jason Kelce, to cut his mullet ahead of the birth of their first child in 2019, but the hairstyle ultimately remained for the milestone moment.
Speaking on a recent episode of her Not Gonna Lie podcast, Kelce recalled that Jason Kelce was still sporting the mullet when their daughter Wyatt was born on October 2, 2019. The couple welcomed Wyatt that fall, marking their first experience as parents, and Kylie said she hoped the haircut wouldn’t be captured in photos taken during the birth.
“He had the mullet around the birth of Wyatt,” she said. “The reason I know that is because I begged and pleaded for him to no longer have the mullet in the photos with our first child.” She added, “You guessed it. There’s a mullet in the photos with our first child’s birth.”
Jason Kelce spent his entire 13-season NFL career with the Philadelphia Eagles before announcing his retirement in 2024. Known for his signature beard and ever-changing hairstyles, he wore the mullet during the 2019 season, the same year he and Kylie became parents for the first time and, according to Kylie, did not cut it despite her request ahead of Wyatt’s arrival.

The couple, who married in 2018, now share four children. Wyatt’s birth represented a major life milestone for the family, which Kylie said prompted her to ask for a change in hairstyle before the moment was preserved in photographs.

Kylie Kelce has previously addressed her husband’s hair choices on her podcast. During a September 18 episode of Not Gonna Lie, she responded to a listener’s question about whether Jason Kelce’s appearance changed after they began dating.
“Queen Emma would like to know if I would say that Jason’s fashion sense or look changed at all when we first started dating. No. Nope. He had long hair when we first started dating. He had the man bun,” she said.
She clarified that she did not influence his decision to cut his hair at that time. “He chose to cut it on his own,” Kylie said. “A bunch of people thought that he cut it because of me and he did not. He actually cut it because he couldn’t comfortably put his head back on the sofa. I’ll tell you what. He looked very good with a man bun.”
The 33-year-old also shared that there was “plenty of evidence” online of Jason looking “great with a man.” She added, “But I do love a fade. And he looked damn good with a fade.”
Despite acknowledging that he “kinda made it look good,” Kylie identified the mullet as the one hairstyle she disliked most. “I will say the one, which we were already married, the one haircut he knows that I came very close to shaving his head in his sleep,” she said. “Full transparency was the mullet.”
