New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh said he welcomed President Donald Trump’s public support during the team’s recent coaching search. The 63-year-old addressed the topic on January 20 during his introductory press conference after the Giants officially announced his hiring.
Earlier this month, Trump, a New York native and longtime supporter of the city’s sports teams, publicly encouraged the organization to bring Harbaugh on board. “Hire John Harbaugh, fast,” Trump wrote in a January 7 post on Truth Social. “He and his brother are total winners!!! President DJT.”
Harbaugh acknowledged the message while speaking with reporters, framing it as part of the broader excitement that surrounds the sport and the franchise.
“It’s sports, and everybody’s excited,” Harbaugh said. “Everybody follows it at every level. People follow football. They follow the Giants, and they follow the National Football League. Like we said, it’s the biggest sport and this is the most iconic franchise, so here we are.”

Trump reiterated his endorsement on January 10, after reports surfaced that more than six teams had expressed interest in Harbaugh. “The New York Football Giants should hire, without question, John Harbaugh – And John, a great guy, should TAKE THE JOB!!! President DJT,” Trump wrote.
Harbaugh said one particular line from that post caught his attention. “I’ll tell you, I also noticed on that post that he said, ‘John, take the job,’” he said. “So I thought that [Giants owner] John Mara might have something to do with that. I don’t know, but it’s cool.”
Harbaugh arrives in New York after an 18-season run with the Baltimore Ravens, where he established himself as one of the NFL’s most accomplished head coaches and led the franchise to a Super Bowl XLVII championship in the 2012 season.
John Harbaugh’s NFL Background And Family Connections

Baltimore released John Harbaugh following an 8–9 season in 2025, marking the franchise’s second losing campaign since 2016. Harbaugh finished his tenure with a 180–113 record and had never served as a head coach for another NFL team.
His younger brother, Jim Harbaugh, currently leads the Los Angeles Chargers, and together the brothers are widely regarded as one of the NFL’s most successful coaching duos.
John also reflected on a July 2025 White House visit with his family, describing it as a rare and meaningful experience. He noted the positivity of the interaction, particularly seeing former President Trump with his mother.
Addressing questions about Trump’s past remarks toward Baltimore, Harbaugh emphasized that the visit was a family moment he valued and expressed goodwill toward the president, similar to how he supports his team and quarterback.
