Joseph Baena secured a major milestone in his bodybuilding journey on Saturday, March 28, capturing multiple titles at the NPC Natural Colorado State. The 28-year-old actor and fitness enthusiast dominated his competitive debut, finishing first in the Men’s Open Body Heavyweight Class, Men’s Classic Physique True Novice, and Men’s Classic Physique Novice divisions.
Baena shared the achievement with fans on Instagram, posting stage photos from the event. “Mission Accomplished! 🥇,” he wrote alongside images of himself showcasing his physique.
The victory came shortly after a training session with his father, Arnold Schwarzenegger, at the iconic Gold’s Gym, a facility deeply tied to Schwarzenegger’s rise in bodybuilding following his move to the United States in the 1960s.

Joseph Baena Details Fitness Journey And Early Struggles

Joseph Baena, whose mother is Mildred Patricia Baena, has previously spoken about his transformation before entering bodybuilding. In a July 2025 post on Instagram, he described his earlier years and introduction to fitness.
He wrote, “People sometimes forget that I used to be chubby in high school. I got cut from my basketball and soccer team because I couldn’t keep up with the other kids.”
He credited swimming as the turning point in his life. “Swim didn’t have tryouts, thankfully, and completely changed my life forever. That was my introduction to Fitness and training.”
In a 2022 interview, Baena said he faced bullying during his childhood and early teenage years. “I was bullied when I was a kid, elementary, middle school, and not really in high school, but I just felt like an outsider in high school at the beginning. I was really overweight from the end of elementary school into the beginning of high school.”
He also described the impact of those experiences on his motivation. “It was my closest friends that were the ones that bullied me the most and made fun of me for being overweight and all these kind of things.”
He further explained, “So, that was really a big struggle for me in finding myself and figuring out and creating that ambition to change my weight and my physique.”
