Kelly Stafford’s Name Pops Up Again Amid Geno Smith Sign Buzz

The August 10, 2025, preseason matchup between the Seattle Seahawks and the Las Vegas Raiders at Lumen Field is back in the spotlight months later, as footage from the game makes the rounds again online. The renewed attention stems from a moment captured on tunnel cameras, showing a fan holding a sign comparing Geno Smith to former No. 1 pick JaMarcus Russell.

This week, the resurfaced clip took on a life of its own when social media chatter unexpectedly pulled Kelly Stafford, wife of Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, into the conversation. Her name began trending despite there being no verified comment from her about the sign or Seahawks fans.

A sports account named MLFootball recently shared an X post featuring a video of Kelly Stafford. The caption of the post read: “TRENDING: Matthew Stafford’s wife Kelly speaks about #Seahawks fans taunting Geno Smith with the who is a bigger bust sign. 😬😬😬
Back at it again.”

According to the video and reports from Sports Illustrated and Bleacher Report, a Seahawks fan held up a sign reading: “BIGGER BUST — GENO OR JAMARCUS RUSSELL.”
As players walked toward the field, Smith looked toward the stands and made an obscene hand gesture, with Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby visible beside him.

Former Seahawks coach Pete Carroll addressed the controversy, responding to Smith’s gesture by saying, “Did you see what the sign said?” Kelly Stafford has publicly commented on fan conduct in unrelated past discussions, and that history has made her a recognizable name in similar conversations. Apart from that, Kelly and Matthew Stafford recently received praise from the Fox Sports host Charissa Thompson.

Charissa Thompson is making headlines off the field after opening up about how her relationship with Los Angeles entrepreneur Steven Cundari began. The FOX Sports host revealed that the connection was sparked by Matthew and Kelly Stafford, who stepped in after noticing she was having a tough time navigating the dating world.

Speaking on her Calm Down podcast with Erin Andrews, Thompson explained that the Staffords orchestrated the introduction because they believed Cundari would be a perfect match.

Thompson said the couple introduced her to Cundari in 2022, and the relationship developed quickly. She recalled on the podcast, “Matthew and Kelly were sick of me dating losers. They were like, ‘We have a great guy for you.’ So they were the matchmakers. It was vetted. I know the social security and the bank account now, so all is right.”

Thompson added that starting a relationship through trusted friends eased much of the uncertainty that typically comes with early dating. Cundari, meanwhile, has established himself as a prominent figure in Los Angeles as a marketing executive, venture partner, and startup investor.

For those unfamiliar with their story, Matthew and Kelly Stafford first met at the University of Georgia, where he was the starting quarterback and she was a cheerleader. Their relationship went through an on-and-off period in the early years, and Kelly once admitted she briefly dated one of Matthew’s backup teammates to see whether he would fight for their relationship.

The couple married on April 4, 2015, and have since welcomed four daughters. Throughout their marriage, they have remained steadfastly supportive of one another. In 2019, Kelly underwent a twelve-hour surgery to remove a brain tumor, a difficult chapter documented in a University of Michigan Medicine report. Together, they have continued to navigate NFL life, parenting, and significant health challenges as a united team.
