Former NBA star Lamar Odom is pushing back against claims made by his ex-wife, Khloé Kardashian, regarding his late father, Joe Odom, following the release of the Netflix documentary Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom.
Odom said he was surprised by Kardashian’s account of events surrounding his 2015 medical emergency, when he suffered a near-fatal overdose at a Nevada brothel. In the documentary, Kardashian alleged that Joe Odom wanted to remove his son from life support and believed he was responsible for making medical decisions.
Speaking on Today with Jenna & Sheinelle on April 6, Odom rejected that version of events while defending his father’s character. “I was knocked out and asleep at that time, but if you know Joe Odom, I don’t think that’s something that would ever come out of his mouth,” Lamar said.
The 46-year-old added, “He was my biggest fan. I don’t know where that got caught — translated. I just can’t see him ever, ever doing that.”
Sources close to Odom, cited by TMZ, said he was confused by Kardashian’s claims and did not believe they accurately reflected his father. The same sources added that Kardashian was listed as the sole beneficiary tied to Odom’s NBA-related finances at the time of the incident.
Odom and Kardashian married in 2009 and separated in 2013. Although they were no longer together during the 2015 incident, they remained legally married until 2016. Kardashian also held power of attorney during Odom’s hospitalization, granting her authority over his medical decisions.

Khloé Kardashian Recalls Hospital Confrontation During 2015 Overdose

In the documentary, Khloe Kardashian described arriving at the hospital and encountering Joe Odom, whom she believed thought he was the decision-maker in the situation.
“Joe just said, ‘Don’t put him on life support, turn those machines off,” Karadshian said in the documentary. “And I remember walking in around that time, and I kid you not, it was a scene out of a movie. And I was like, ‘Sorry, Joe. I’m still his wife. What do you need?”
Kardashian also claimed that Joe Odom requested “a pair of Nikes and $100 and a hotel room for the night,” which she said she provided before he left and did not return.
