Netflix’s ‘Don’t Look Up’ is characterized by wit and poignancy. It is a story of astronomers Dr. Randall played by Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Dibiasky preventing the arrival of the comet by warning humankind. The film has received accolades from film critics and audiences. The final line uttered by Randall was not in the script of the character and The Revenant actor improvised the line which ultimately gave that cherry on the cake to the film.

Leonardo DiCaprio Is To Be Credited For The Nail Hitting Climax Dialogue
‘Don’t Look Up’ had to its core the depiction of the nature of the human with the presentation being facial and satirical. So, the core of it is perfectly encapsulated by Leo’s character and was not have been possible if it was not for Leonardo himself.
In the final scene, at the dinner table, when the Earth is proven to be doomed. It was due to the failed efforts of Randall’s team, and the comet was surely hitting the surface of the earth. Mindy and the family gather for the final evening, accepting their fate, one last time. In the last moment, Randall utters, “We really did have everything, didn’t we? I mean when you think about it.” and the comet hits the earth, shattering it completely.
Leonardo DiCaprio Had Adam McKay And Cate Hardman In Tears
The line that Leonardo’s character Randall says was not originally in the script. In an interview with Variety, Adam Mckay, the director said that DiCaprio came up with the line when the star walked towards him and the script supervisor, Cate Hardman.
Adam added, “He said the line — he didn’t even read it in character, and immediately Cate, who’s this tough Texan, and I both immediately teared up, and my voice cracked a little bit [and] I just went, ‘Yup, I think you should try that!”
Adam admitted about what the original line was, and what addition did DiCaprio bring to the table. He added, “Originally the line was Jen saying ‘Well, we tried,” And it was Leo who was like, ‘No, it feels like it needs to be something else.’ So he didn’t just come up with it, he came into the edit and told us to try it.”
The Line Improvised By Leonardo Was Not In The Final Cut Till The End
Adam McKay was still in dilemma about the final line that captures the essence of the film. He said, “We were trying to get the balance of that ending just right. You don’t want to traumatize the audience but you want it to hit them. So we didn’t have that line in, and this is nearing the final cut. We don’t have much time left.”
While the director Mckay and editor Hank Corwin was frantically searching for the ending scene, Leo walked in the studio, and told Mckay, “Don’t you have to try that line? It really felt powerful when we did it. This was the ” we really did have everything” line. McKay was thankful for Leo pushing him to use that line as he added, “I was afraid to use it and we put it before a test screening and it just landed.”
The film also stars Rob Morgan, Meryl Streep, Jonah Hill, Cate Blanchett, Tyler Perry, Timothee Chalamet, Ariana Grande, Kid Cudi, Ron Perlman. The film has already garnered four nominations at the Academy for Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best Original Score, Best Film Editing. It is streaming on Netflix.
