Matthew McConaughey’s Uber Eats NFL Ad Sparks Viewer Backlash During AFC Championship

Matthew McConaughey’s latest Uber Eats commercial drew widespread criticism from NFL viewers during the AFC Championship game between the New England Patriots and Denver Broncos on January 25.

Uber Eats debuted a new series of ads during the broadcast, continuing McConaughey’s role as the brand’s spokesperson while introducing a playful on-screen rivalry with actor Bradley Cooper. The 30-second spot featured McConaughey driving a pickup truck as Cooper ran alongside wearing a Philadelphia Eagles hat.

Throughout the commercial, McConaughey repeatedly shouted the word “food,” altering his tone with each delivery. Cooper attempted to interject, asking, “Don’t you have somewhere else to,” before McConaughey cut him off with another loud “food” yell. The ad concluded with McConaughey shouting, “It’s all food, Bradley,” followed by, “Are you in the mood for some food?”

The spot ended with a teaser indicating that an extended version of the commercial will air during Super Bowl LX on February 8. Reaction to the ad was swift and largely negative.

Social media platforms, particularly X, were flooded with complaints from viewers who described the commercial as disruptive and irritating during the high-stakes playoff matchup. Viewer backlash quickly spilled onto social media, with many expressing frustration over the commercial’s tone and frequency.

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more maddeningly annoying commercial than this stupid Matthew McConaughey ‘Fooooood’ Uber Eats commercial,” one user wrote. Another added, “I was gonna download Uber Eats until they showed that mcconaughey ad and now instead I’ll pray on their downfall.”

Others echoed the sentiment with blunt assessments. “Uber Eats really said: Matthew McConaughey… but unbearable,” a third comment read. One viewer said the ad made them “never” want to order delivery “of any kind ever again.”

Another user summed up the widespread reaction, writing, “In these trying times, it’s nice to see us come together as a nation and agree these Matthew McConaughey Uber Eats commercials are terrible.”

The backlash stood in stark contrast to the reception McConaughey received last year, when he debuted as Uber Eats’ spokesperson during the 2025 Super Bowl to a largely positive response.

Despite the backlash, some viewers voiced enthusiasm for the campaign. “These Matthew McConaughey Uber Eats commercials are the best and never get old,” one user wrote. Another added, “I love the new Uber Eats commercial with Matthew McConaughey!! It’s funny … plus … he’s in it!!”

Uber Eats released the full lineup of McConaughey-led commercials on YouTube on Monday, January 26. One additional spot features McConaughey interacting with miniature versions of himself and Bradley Cooper while discussing how football is an “obvious” way to sell food. The scene ends with McConaughey slapping the smaller version of Cooper.

A third commercial featured McConaughey interrogating San Francisco 49ers mascot Sourdough Sam. In the spot, he questions the character’s backstory, asking, “Why is a gold miner mascot named after artisanal bread?” and “Is he silent? Or has he been silenced?”

Uber Eats has not publicly addressed the mixed reaction to the campaign as the brand continues its lead-up to Super Bowl LX.
