Eight-year-old Brooke Scherzer made a direct appeal to the Toronto Blue Jays months before her father, pitcher Max Scherzer, agreed to return to the club on a one-year, $3 million contract.
After news of the deal became public, Scherzer’s wife, Erica Scherzer, shared on Instagram a handwritten letter Brooke had written to the organization in December 2025. In the note, Brooke addressed the team’s World Series loss and expressed hope that her father would remain with the club next season.
“Dear Blue Jays, I am so sorry that you didn’t win the World Series,” Brooke wrote. “I hope that you win next time. I hope my dad is back on the team.”
She continued, “My whole family loves spending time in Toronto with our dad. We loved the aquarium, CN Tower and of course, the stadium. I am looking forward to coming back next season. Love, Max Scherzer’s daughter.”
Erica Scherzer explained in her caption that Brooke had sealed the letter in an envelope and asked her parents to mail it to the team.
“Back in December, Brooke wrote this letter, put it in an envelope, and asked us to mail it to the Blue Jays,” Erica wrote. “Looks like she gets her wish! ☺️ Last season had an amazing impact on our entire family, and we couldn’t be more excited to be back in Toronto!! Season 19 here we go! 💙.”

Scherzer’s agreement keeps him with the Blue Jays for another season following the club’s run to the World Series. As already stated, the contract is valued at $3 million for one year.
