U.S. Hockey Team Caps Gold Run With White House Visit And Presidential Honor

The Men’s Hockey team’s schedule continued in Washington, D.C., where several players attended President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address at the U.S. Capitol on Tuesday and later visited the White House.
Earlier in the week, a phone call between Trump and the men’s team went viral after the president joked about inviting the women’s hockey team, which also won gold in Milan by defeating Canada.
“I believe I probably would be impeached,” Trump said during the call, prompting laughter. The exchange drew backlash after it circulated online. The women’s team later declined the White House invitation, citing prior scheduling commitments.
During his State of the Union address, Trump said the women’s team would soon visit the White House. He also announced plans to award goaltender Connor Hellebuyck the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor presented by the United States government, after Hellebuyck recorded 41 saves in the gold medal game.
