World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler has withdrawn from this week’s Houston Open as he and his wife, Meredith, prepare to welcome their second child. Multiple reports confirmed on Tuesday that Scheffler will not tee it up at the PGA Tour event, which is set to begin Thursday.
Scheffler married Meredith in 2020, and the couple is expecting their second child. They welcomed their first child, a son named Bennett, in May 2024, just weeks after Scheffler captured his Masters Tournament title.
Scheffler has continued to cement his status as one of golf’s most dominant forces in recent years. The World No. 1 has captured four major championships, including victories at the Masters Tournament in 2022 and again in 2024. He further strengthened his resume in 2025 by adding titles at the PGA Championship and The Open Championship.

With his consistent elite form, Scheffler is once again widely expected to be a leading contender at next month’s Masters, held at Augusta National Golf Club. In his absence, the Houston Open will move forward without the top-ranked player in the field.
Scottie Scheffler Finished Tied For 22nd At The Players Championship

Scottie Scheffler last competed at The Players Championship in 2026, where he finished tied for 22nd place at 5 under par. The tournament marked his most recent appearance before he withdrew from the Houston Open.
He opened the event with inconsistent play, shooting even par in the first round and 1 over par in the second. The 29-year-old improved significantly in the third round with a 5-under performance that moved him up the leaderboard.
His final round began with setbacks. A double bogey on the fourth hole halted his momentum and affected his standing for the remainder of the round. Despite the result, Scheffler emphasized his approach and mindset during the tournament.
He said, “I mean, I think with the way I hit it the first couple days, to kind of have the attitude that I did and the fight that I did, I think that – when I look at tournaments, I’m not thinking about winning, I’m thinking about approaching things the right way.”
He further added, “I did my best to stay committed, and I did a good job, I think, of keeping the right attitude and keeping my head on straight in order to grind out a couple rounds that were difficult. And then I shot a nice round today as well. So overall, I think I’ve been in a good spot with how my attitude and commitment have been to my shots. So that’s, for me, a good week.”
