Serena Williams has shared that she lost approximately 30 pounds with the help of a GLP-1 prescription, citing measurable improvements in her overall health over the past year.
The 23-time Grand Slam champion, who retired from professional tennis in 2022, posted photos on Instagram over the weekend showing herself in a tailored skirt suit and white tank, captioning the moment simply: “That good-good… day.”
The images accompanied a partnership post tied to the GLP-1 medication, where the American icon explained its role in her physical and lab results.
“I never thought I’d be sharing this on camera,” Williams said in a video, noting the changes extend beyond weight loss. “Some of my health stats are even better than when I was playing tennis.”
She highlighted specific improvements, including a projected 19 percent decrease in her lifetime risk for cardiovascular disease and a 30 percent improvement in total cholesterol levels since starting the medication.
Williams emphasized wellness over appearance and said in a recent interview, “I feel healthier. I feel lighter. I feel great. It’s a really good feeling.”
GLP-1 medications, originally prescribed for diabetes management, have increasingly been used for weight management, prompting discussion across sports and fitness communities. Williams addressed the topic directly, emphasizing transparency.

“I just wanted to naturally share my story and tell everyone that it’s not a shortcut,” she told PEOPLE. “It had such a stigma, and I wanted to be a part of breaking that down.”
“I started GLP-1s because of you,” one person told her in public, which Williams said highlighted the broader impact of sharing personal health experiences.
Serena Williams Sparks Return Speculation Ahead Of Super Bowl Appearance

Tennis fans are preparing for a potential Serena Williams comeback as speculation grows about a major announcement during next weekend’s Super Bowl.
The 44-year-old, who retired at the 2022 US Open, appeared on the International Tennis Integrity Agency’s Registered Testing Pool list in October, raising questions about her playing future.
In a recent interview with Today presenter Savannah Guthrie, Williams declined to confirm a return. “I don’t know, I’m just going to see what happens. I’m just having fun and enjoying my life right now,” she said.

Williams is also promoting the telehealth company Ro, which distributes the GLP-1 weight-loss drug Zepbound and is connected to her husband, Alexis Ohanian, an investor in the company.
Ro purchased a television advertising slot for Super Bowl LX, which will feature the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots in Santa Clara, further fueling speculation that Williams could use the platform to make an announcement.
