Shaquille O’Neal admitted he felt rare pre-show nerves before taking the stage as DJ Diesel at the Las Vegas Sphere, describing the experience as comparable to the most intense moments in sports.
O’Neal made a surprise appearance alongside Illenium during the Odyssey finale weekend on Friday night, marking his first time performing inside the cutting-edge venue known for its immersive visuals and massive-scale production.
Reflecting on the moment in an Instagram post, O’Neal wrote, “I’ve done a lot of things in my life and it’s hard for me to get nervous, but this is one of the few times I got on stage and was actually nervous.”
The four-time NBA champion said the atmosphere inside the Sphere was unlike anything he had experienced, even during his playing career. “Las Vegas Sphere does something to you, man … this really felt like a Game 7.”
He also credited Illenium for the opportunity, adding, “Thank you for making my dreams come true,” while joking that the night felt like a Game 8 for the electronic music star.

Beyond music, Shaquille O’Neal remains active in business and live entertainment. During a live taping of his Big Pod podcast held alongside the NCAA Men’s Final Four weekend, he surprised fans by bringing out hip-hop group Onyx.
The group performed their Billboard Hot 100 hit titled ‘Slam’, with O’Neal modifying the lyrics to “SLAM THAT CANDY!” as part of a promotional moment tied to his latest product launch. The appearance coincided with the introduction of Shaq-A-Licious SLAMS, a new addition to his gummy candy line created in partnership with The Hershey Company.
The product features basketball-themed gummy pieces with a sour mango element. At the same event, O’Neal announced the formation of DUNKMAN, a professional dunk competition league. He will serve as founder and commissioner, with the league set to feature 24 participants competing for a $500,000 prize.
