Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla’s acquisition of Twitter finally came to fruition with a $44 billion deal. Previously, the CEO of Neuralink was the highest stakeholder in the famous micro-blogging website with a 9.1 percent ownership stake of $3 billion. After closing the deal, the new owner of Twitter began ousting several top executives of the firm including CEO Parag Agarwal and CFO Ned Segal. Allegedly, Musk has set tight deadlines and schedules for his employees and has ordered them to work 12-hour shifts, seven days a week.
According to reports, the world’s richest man has plans to let go a quarter of his workforce in his first round of layoffs. Currently there are over 7,000 employees working, and a quarter of the headcount amounts nearly 2,000 employees. Consequentially, to meet his aggressive deadline and not to get their jobs plucked out from them, employees are working on a tight schedule with little to no sleep. Employees are sharing photos of their colleagues with the hashtag #SleepWhereYouWork, to show the dedication they have for their work. (Is it the real reason though? We Will never know.)
Twitter Employee Sleeping At Work To Meet Deadlines
Twitter now at the hands of Elon Musk is facing a major transition to align with the goals of its new owner. Employees are asked to “literally work 24/7 to meet the headlines for an overhaul of Twitter’s user verification process.” Several reports purportedly state that the workers are afraid of loosing their jobs if they fail to meet the deadline. In consequence, employees seem to have chosen an effective method of sleeping at work in order to utilize the time at hand.
Thereupon, a Twitter employee shared a photo of his manager sleeping on the office floor. The one sleeping on the floor was Twitter’s director of product management Esther Crawford. She was photographed curled in a sleeping bag sandwiched between a table and three chairs with her eye mask on. Evan Jones, product manager for Twitter Spaces posted the image on Twitter. The caption read: “When you need something from your boss at Elon twitter.”

Crawford’s Reaction To Twitter’s Upsurge
Crawford retweeted the photo with the caption, “When your team is pushing round the clock to make deadlines sometimes you #SleepWhereYouWork.” Her post hauled numerous apprehensive responses on social media. “Since some people are loosing their minds I’ll explain: doing hard things requires sacrifice (time, energy, etc),” Crawford responded forthwith. “I have teammates around the world who are putting in the effort to bring something new to life so it’s important to me to show up for them & keep the team unblocked.”

In another tweet, she said, “I work with amazingly talented & ambitious people here at Twitter and this is not a normal moment in time. We are less than 1wk into a massive business & cultural transition. People are giving it their all across all functions: product, design, eng, legal, finance, marketing, etc.”
“We are #OneTeam and we use the hashtag #LoveWhereYouWork to show it, which is why I retweeted with #SleepWhereYouWork – a cheeky nod to fellow Tweeps. We’ve been in the midst of a crazy public acquisition for months but we keep going & I’m so proud of our strength & resilience,” she added.
