Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham is shedding light on teammate Caitlin Clark’s personality away from the public spotlight, describing the league’s young star as grounded and playful despite the intense attention surrounding her career.
Appearing on the Wednesday, February 25 episode of the Like a Farmer Podcast, Cunningham said Clark’s demeanor off the court often surprises those who only see her through the lens of her on-court stardom.
“First of all, I think she is such a normal human,” Cunningham said. “She truly is. Like, she loves ball, you know what I mean? But my favorite story? I don’t even know if I have a favorite story, but she’s a big ole dork. I think it’s just an overall, like, you kind of go in and you don’t know what to expect. She’s a generational player. She has all this tension and carries it all so well, especially being her age.”
Cunningham explained that there isn’t a single defining moment that captures Clark’s personality, noting instead that her teammate consistently brings a lighthearted, easygoing energy behind the scenes.
“And I promise you, she’s the biggest dork you will ever meet. So I just love her. Like, love her whole vibe. There’s not one whole story that kind of sticks out,” she added.
Clark entered the WNBA with enormous national attention following her record-breaking college career and has since been widely credited with drawing new audiences to the league. Cunningham previously compared Clark’s influence on the sport to the way major pop stars elevate others in the music industry.
“I think that Taylor Swift has helped Sabrina Carpenter so much,” Cunningham told Us Weekly in 2025 when she joined the Fever. “And I think that Caitlin Clark has helped not only her teammates, but our whole league, our whole sport in general, not only here in America, but around the world.”

Sophie Cunningham said her approach is focused on supporting her teammates and contributing wherever the team needs her most, adding that Clark has fully earned both her status and leadership role.
Beyond discussing Clark, Cunningham also offered insight into the candid culture inside WNBA locker rooms. She described the league as tight-knit and refreshingly unfiltered compared to environments in the NBA, explaining that conversations among players can often be far more outspoken than many fans might expect.
