Tough Finish For Charlie Woods At Junior Invitational Amid Growing Tiger Woods Masters Hype

Charlie Woods finished last at the 2026 Junior Invitational at Sage Valley, closing the prestigious amateur tournament with a 26-over total at Sage Valley Golf Club. The 17-year-old, son of golf legend Tiger Woods, competed in a 36-player field at one of the most prominent junior tournaments in the United States.

Woods ultimately placed 36th, finishing at the bottom of the leaderboard in the elite field. Woods began the tournament with a 3-over 75 in the opening round. He followed that with a 4-over 76 in the second round but struggled as the event progressed. The young golfer posted an 11-over 83 in the third round before closing with an 8-over 80 in Saturday’s final round.

Despite the difficult result, Charlie entered the event with strong credentials on the junior circuit. According to the American Junior Golf Association rankings, he currently sits at No. 20 among junior players.

The tournament title was claimed by Miles Russell, who entered the event as the top-ranked player in the AJGA standings. Russell captured the championship with an impressive 15-under total. Notably, both Russell and Woods have committed to play college golf at Florida State University.

“Excited to announce my commitment to play golf at Florida State University — go Noles!” Woods wrote on Instagram last month.

The Junior Invitational at Sage Valley has long been considered a launching pad for future professional stars. Scottie Scheffler won the event in 2014, while Akshay Bhatia captured the title in 2018.

Woods is currently a junior at The Benjamin School in Palm Beach, Florida. He has already won two state championships during his high school career. His parents, Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren, reunited last month to support him at a championship ceremony where the family posed for photos together.

Tiger Woods has not competed in a professional tournament since the 2024 Open Championship as he continues recovering from injuries. The 50-year-old underwent treatment for a ruptured Achilles tendon and a bulging disc, which kept him away from competition for much of the past year.

During the Genesis Invitational last month, Woods said he had received medical clearance and did not rule out playing at the Masters.

I know I’ll be there. We’re going to open up The Patch, and Trev Immelman and I are going to be part of a great dinner,” Woods told CBS. When asked if he could also tee it up in the tournament, he replied, “There is.”

Woods, a 15-time major champion, is a five-time winner of the Masters Tournament, most recently in 2019. He turned 50 in December, making him eligible for the PGA Tour Champions circuit, which could offer limited opportunities for competitive play ahead of the season’s first major.
