A 12-year-old golf fan living with cystic fibrosis received a memorable surprise when he met Travis Kelce and two-time Masters champion Scottie Scheffler during a Make-A-Wish experience at the WM Phoenix Open on February 4 in Arizona.
Carson McKee, who was diagnosed with the genetic condition at just two weeks old, spent time with both athletes on the course and even took a putt on Scheffler’s behalf. The special moment was later shared in a PGA Tour video posted to Instagram on Sunday, February 8, showing Carson chatting with the two stars and asking them questions.
“What’s your best card of yourself?” Carson asked Kelce. “I’ve got a hideous-looking card,” Kelce replied. “It’s like a blue card where I got … it’s my rookie card, man. It’s the worst picture I’ve ever taken in my life.”
Carson also asked Schefflera about his favorite club. “Whichever one decides it wants to behave on that day,” Scheffler said, before adding, “I like chipping. So like your lob wedge. You can do a lot of different stuff with your lob wedge.”
Kelce made sure to compliment Carson’s tournament outfit during the visit, telling him, “Dude, you got the get-up and everything. You’re swagged out.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, cystic fibrosis is a genetic disorder that damages the lungs, digestive system, and other organs by causing mucus and digestive fluids to become thick and sticky. Carson’s father, Jarrod, noted that ongoing research and fundraising efforts have significantly improved outcomes for families affected by the disease.
“The story today looks a lot different than what it used to, because of all the research and fundraising from a lot of families that have seen some really down times with their kids going through it,” Jarrod said. “And fortunately for our family, we’ve benefited from all of their efforts.”

Carson’s mother, Heather, reflected on the emotional toll of her son’s diagnosis while expressing gratitude for the support their family has received over the years.
“It was devastating at first, but we’ve met some really amazing people along the way who have helped Carson and our family, and we’re very grateful for all of them,” she said.

Carson McKee also participated in Scottie Scheffler’s pre-tournament media session, where he asked the reigning Open champion to name a basketball starting five made up of PGA Tour players. “I think you gotta start with Gary Woodland,” Scheffler said.
The 29-year-old added, “He played college basketball, so it’s a tough one to pass up. Russell Henley is going to be our point guard. Jacob Bridgeman, I think, is going to make the lineup. He still plays a couple times a week. I think Tony Finau will be the big guy for us on the team.”
