Uros Medić’s “Hail Mary” Immigration Plea Answered By President Donald Trump

Uros Medić said a phone call from Donald Trump helped resolve his long-standing immigration concerns after he made a public appeal inside the Octagon following his win at UFC Houston.

Medić, a Serbian-born fighter who has lived in the United States for 11 years, secured a knockout victory over Geoff Neal at UFC Houston at the Toyota Center on February 21, 2026. After the fight, he used his post-victory interview to request help regarding travel restrictions tied to his immigration status.

“Now I got one little problem,” Medic declared in the cage. “Immigration’s been holding me up and I can’t travel just yet. So this is my plea for help. President, Mr. President, if you can see this, please, we gotta go to Belgrade, Serbia for the UFC this summer.”

Medić later said he was backstage during his medical check when Dana White called him into an office and placed the president on speakerphone.

“I’m back in his office, and Dana’s got President Donald Trump on speaker phone,” Medic said at the post-fight press conference. “I’m just standing there, and I cannot believe what’s happening. I’m talking to the president, and he said, ‘You’re good to go wherever you please. You can travel. Just give Dana documentation, the information that you need.”

According to Medić, Donald Trump also congratulated him on his performance during the call and remarked that he “packs a punch.”

Medić explained that although he holds a work permit valid through 2030, he had been reluctant to leave the United States because of limited documentation and uncertainty surrounding his ability to reenter the country. As a result, the Serbian fighter said he has not traveled back to Serbia in three years.

The welterweight added that the conversation reassured him he would be able to visit his family and potentially compete if the UFC stages a future event in Belgrade.

Uros Medić said he arrived in the United States at the age of 22 with just $600 to his name. According to Medić, he spent $400 on a room and took a job at Texas Roadhouse while beginning his training in mixed martial arts.

His persistence eventually earned him an opportunity on Dana White’s Contender Series, which led to a contract and a place on the UFC roster.

His victory in Houston also came with a $100,000 bonus and pushed the Serbian fighter into the promotion’s top 15 rankings at welterweight.
