“She Would Be Amazing”: Ralph Fiennes Endorses New Voldemort for ‘Harry Potter’ HBO Series

In Short
  • Ralph Fiennes endorses Tilda Swinton as a potential Voldemort for HBO's new 'Harry Potter' series.
  • Fiennes praised Swinton's talent, calling her "fantastic" and "amazing" for the role.
  • HBO is reportedly considering both men and women for the Voldemort character, sparking fan discussions.

It is often said that the sheer evil and intensity of a villain are what make audiences root for the hero rather than the villain. Lord Voldemort from the ‘Harry Potter‘ series stands among the most iconic examples. The main antagonist of the franchise, portrayed by Ralph Fiennes, remains one of the most memorable villains in film history. It is also often argued that Fiennes has not received the full recognition he truly deserves for the role.

Now, 15 years after ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2,’ Fiennes has backed the idea of Tilda Swinton playing Voldemort in HBO’s upcoming ‘Harry Potter‘ series.

The 63-year-old’s surprising comment, made while speaking on BBC’s The Claudia Winkleman Show, has sparked a lot of discussion among fans of the wizarding world. He called her “fantastic” and said she would be “amazing” as the Dark Lord. “Tilda Swinton was mentioned somewhere as being a contender, and I think she would be amazing. She would be fantastic,” Fiennes said, pointing to her strong screen presence and range as an actor.

No official announcement has been made yet about who will play Voldemort, but Fiennes’ support has already fuelled debate about a possible fresh take on the character.

And I said: ‘Yes, I’d love to.’ But then nothing’s happened. I think that ship has sailed“, he admitted.
