Andrew Garfield recently addressed the swirling rumors that he has signed on to star in Marvel’s much awaited project, ‘Spider-Man 4.’ Rumors around the film suggested both Andrew Garfield’s and Tobey Maguire’s inclusion.
However, Garfield denies any involvement in the film. Due to his reputation for lying to keep secrets, fans don’t believe the news and the actor is aware of this.
Andrew Garfield Would Only Return As Spider-Man If He Has The Same Vision
The Spider-Man actor denied having any involvement in ‘Spider-Man 4’ in an interview with GQ UK. Additionally, the actor is aware of the skepticism his denials might inspire, given his history of refuting similar rumors in 2021, only to eventually reprise his Spider-Man role in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home.’
“I’m gonna disappoint you. Yeah, no,” Garfield said when asked about the speculation. “But I know no one’s gonna trust anything I say from now on.” Garfield’s journey as Spider-Man has been an emotional rollercoaster, marked by a sudden halt after 2014’s ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’.
While he has not completely ruled out donning the Spidey suit again, Garfield emphasized that any return would have to align with his personal vision. When asked if he would consider stepping back into the superhero world Garfield talked about his evolving priorities.
“If it felt in line with my soul and was gonna be fun,” he shared. “Maybe I’m gonna have like five kids at some point, and I’m gonna need to start saving up for the school tuition or something.” Despite his undeniable passion for the Spider-Man character, he’s clear about ensuring any potential return feels authentic and meaningful.
Andrew Garfield On His ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Return
Andrew Garfield’s brief but impactful return in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ served as a redemption of sorts for his Peter Parker. His role as the web-slinger was abruptly cut short after ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ underperformed. Reflecting on the experience, the actor shared how hesitant he was to return.

“I thought Tobey was not going to want to do that. He’ll act every 10 years much to my chagrin, and I’ve shared that with him,” Garfield joked. “When I heard that he was kind of leaning in, I thought it was either going to be the greatest thing in the world or the worst thing in the world. I am so grateful because it was the most joyful thing ever. All the pressure was on Tom.”
While Garfield may believe his run as Spider-Man wasn’t as iconic, fans of Spider-Verse appreciate his contribution to the Spider-Man legacy. Yet, Garfield remains cautious about returning. He emphasized the importance of a compelling concept that adds something unique to the cultural landscape. “If there’s a great concept or something that hasn’t been done before that’s unique and odd and exciting, then yeah, I would 100% come back,” he stated.
