For years, Andrew Garfield has lived at the center of one of the most persistent superhero fan campaigns of the modern era. Ever since his emotional and widely celebrated return in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, the call for ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 3’ has been loud.
Fans have made edits, petitions, fancasts, and timelines. Now, the actor himself has drawn a line through the speculation.
Why ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ Trilogy Fell Apart

Speaking in a candid new interview with GQ, Garfield addressed a fan question head-on. When asked if ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 3’ was happening, his answer was definitive. “It’s not happening and I don’t believe it ever will, but sweet of you to want it to happen.” It was an honest, bittersweet confirmation that the long-dreamed sequel isn’t in development and likely never will be. To understand why this statement feels so final, you have to rewind to the early 2010s. ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 3’ wasn’t just an idea; it had a release date: June 10, 2016.

A fourth film was even being mapped out for May 4, 2018. Director Marc Webb was set to return and wrap up the trilogy with Garfield in his final outing. However, behind the scenes, Sony had started steering the franchise toward a web of spinoffs. This included plans for a Sinister Six movie and other villain-centered projects. ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ received mixed reviews due to its crowded storyline and world-building distractions.
Then Tom Holland stepped in as the MCU’s Peter Parker, launching his own trilogy and currently filming his fourth movie, titled ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’. Garfield’s Spider-Man was effectively retired. Then ‘No Way Home’ happened. His return, alongside Tobey Maguire, reignited global enthusiasm for his version of the character. Fans felt his arc had been cut short, and there was renewed love for his performance.
Even though Garfield insists the third solo film isn’t happening, his Marvel journey doesn’t seem completely over. In the same interview, he addressed another swirl of rumors, this time about the upcoming ‘Avengers: Doomsday’. When asked if he and Tobey Maguire appear in the film, he shut it down clearly: they’re not in it. However, all hope isn’t lost.
Scorpion Makes A Comeback In New ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Set Photos

With Holland’s Peter Parker stepping into a new chapter where no one remembers he’s Spider-Man, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ is shaping up to be a darker, lonelier, more street-level story. And thanks to new set photos, one of his long-teased foes is officially entering the fight: Scorpion. Photos shared by insider MyTimeToShineHello show Michael Mando back as Mac Gargan, the same character who appeared in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’.

In the first batch of images, Mando is spotted wearing a white prison jumpsuit, suggesting Gargan is likely being released or transported. Another photo shows him inside a helicopter, potentially symbolizing his escape, transfer, or extraction by an ally. Tom Holland is also seen on set, not in costume, but striking Spider-Man poses. This marks Scorpion’s long-awaited step out of the shadows after eight years of teasers. And he won’t be the only threat Peter faces.
Jon Bernthal’s Punisher is set to appear, possibly as both rival and wild card. Marvin Jones is also returning as Tombstone, but this time in live action after voicing the character in Into the Spider-Verse. With Peter now operating alone, cut off from allies and recognition, the stakes feel drastically higher. Gargan’s vendetta, established back in ‘Homecoming’, is finally coming full circle.
