Anthony Mackie, the star of the upcoming ‘Captain America: Brave New World’, recently shared his experience of working with the legendary Harrison Ford. Ford joins the MCU as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, stepping into the role previously played by the late William Hurt.
Mackie has been showering Ford with praise ever since the promotional run for the film began.
Anthony Mackie Praises Harrison Ford’s Down-To-Earth Demeanor
In an interview with Fandango, Anthony Mackie spoke candidly about his relationship with Ford. The actor shared heartfelt anecdotes that highlight the veteran actor’s down-to-earth personality. This isn’t the first time the two have worked together; they first crossed paths on the set of ‘Hollywood Homicide’ early in Mackie’s career.
Reflecting on their reunion, Mackie couldn’t help but praise Ford’s grounded approach to fame and his ability to connect with others. He recalled their first interaction. Though nervous to work with a star of Ford’s caliber, Mackie was quickly put at ease. “Even the first day I worked with him, I got nervous, and he pulled me to the side, and he was like, ‘Relax, kid,’” Mackie shared.
This simple gesture left a lasting impression on the young actor, who has carried the memory throughout his career. Fast forward to their time on ‘Captain America: Brave New World’, and Mackie’s respect for Ford only deepened. He describes Ford as “probably one of the coolest brothers.”
Mackie shared how surprised he was by Ford’s humility. Ford’s willingness to mingle with the cast and crew, rather than isolating himself, stood out. “He never left set to do his ‘famous’ stuff. He was always one of the cast members and, one of the actors. It was never a thing of intimidation,” Mackie said.
‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Director Also Talked About Harrison Ford’s Humility
‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Director Julius Onah also chimed in with his own stories about Harrison Ford. Onah described his nerves when visiting Ford’s home early in the production process, only to be met with unexpected humor and hospitality. “I was so nervous, and then he just started telling the most raunchy jokes,” Onah revealed.

The icebreaker led to Ford offering whiskey, several rounds of it, in fact. “I’m like, ‘I can’t keep up with this guy.’ But he’s just the realest, most down-to-earth dude,” Onah said. Both Mackie and Onah expressed admiration for Ford’s ability to make others feel at ease, despite his superstar status. “He’s not just a veteran actor. He’s someone who knows how to make you feel like you belong,” Onah added.
